cultural conquest considered military conquest?

in my first game, all planets from all major races joined my realm. never did any of my soldiers fire a single shot in combat. however, i was told that i had won a military conquest and defeated my enemies.
this is plain wrong -- isnt it?

however, i forgot to go online and thus had to reload the game. the second time, the last planet did not join and so my score was significantly lower since it was considered a cultural victory, then.

the most funniest thing was the lieutenant coming to the general (in the mil victory video), babbling about all others being ... *gone*. what a blind fool. they werent ... *gone*. they were merely assimilated. nobody was ... *gone*.


no big deal. but still a bit weird.

Hi, if you are at war with somebody else. A cultural assimilation counts as a military victory. If you are at peace its a cultural victory.

IMHO It would be nice that to change the cultural assimilation in a way that it is impossible / much harder to assimilate other worlds if you are at war with its race.

Cultural conquest is when you win because you control a large enough fraction of the total culture in the galaxy (90%). Converting all enemy planets to your culture counts as a military conquest. This can usualyl only happen if you have cultural conquest disabled or are at war.

When you are at war with a race, I believe they get a cultural resist bonus. I think this bonus is related to the current relationship level. You can also NOT win by cultural conquest when at war with other races.

i was told that id win within a year because of cultural supremacy. shortly before then end of that year, the last planet of the last independant major civilisation joined my realm.

and this idiot lieutenant craped his pants because he thought we had won a war against all those evil aliens out there :sniff!:

dont get me wrong, i really like the game. but this is irritating.

Some people turn off the culteral conquest winning condition from the game menu when you are starting a new game. This will prevent the culteral victory condition a year after you have achieved 90% of the map.

You may still take over stars culterally but the win is considered a military victory because you have to beat all the major AI players in your game.

PS. you should download the latest version 1.10 which has some bug fixes and it also is a very good upgrade/expansion.

You're taking a risk by updating to 1.1 before finishing a 1.05 game, Morbutor. Some saves don't load.
My advice is to finish up your 1.05 game.

okay, thx. just did that. was a tiny map, fortunately.

edit: i failed to locate the update on stardock, unfortunately.
1.05.071 is the version i can download at stardock central, drengin.net.

correction: it says that that version is already installed. but there is no newer version available, there.

could you enlighten me where to look?

oh, i think i needed to either re-install stardock or update it in order to get the new galciv update.

ive somehow hit the update button after having completely reinstalled the whole thingy. no harm done, i guess.
1.10A is an alpha version, right?

The A doesn't mean Alpha the beta period of the expansion only just ended last tuesday.
