What happen to the Excaliburs ships and what's up with Stellar Cartography?

I have played already a few games in the new Exp pack, but I have not seen yet the Excalibur tech or the ships, are they still active? I did the overlord, avatar, dreaghnuts, darknights, etc, but no Excalibur. What happened? Also what about stellar cartography? I don't see any use for it yet.

Stellar cartography lets you see where all the yellow stars are, and ability the AI players have before the start of the game. If you've already explored the entire map, stellar cartography is useless (you can't even trade it for much).

Excaliburs are waaaay down the tech tree, after Near Omnipotence if I'm not mistaken, so it isn't surprising if you don't get to it before the game is over.

I just had an excalibur in the new GCX so it is still there. Stellar Cartography is still in the tech tree but by the time I researched it the yellows starts were known on my map and I forgot to see if the yellows look the same as 1.05 (brighter white with stellar cartography).

When I first read that, I thought that "ship without a port" was some kind of insult.

Actually, I live in Chicago, so it might be geographically appropriate.

It's been over a month since my most recent game. I was waiting for the expansion, and in the meantime I got interested in other games. I got Earth 2150 from amazon for $10 and Baldur's Gate II collection for $20.
