Repetitive Motion Syndrome

I start every game with the following actions:

1) set research to Communication Theory
2) set Mil spending to 100%
3) set Soc spending to 0%
4) set Rsh spending to 0%
5) set Expenditures to 100%
6) set taxes to 60%
7) add soil improvement to Build Queue
8) set Earth production to Colony Ship
9) save the game

Then I explore, find myself in an untenable position, CTL-N, and do it all again.

Any reason the game cannot save my starting settings rather than always default to something else?

Max...,

I find that my initial setups are the same also. Although what you ask, seems reasonable, I find that I can ctrl-N to find a decent to pretty good starting situation THEN do your steps 1-9. To me, it is all about starting position and anything that comes your way after that is manageable.

Same here. I ctrl-N until I get a class 21 earth (+5% PQ), then I check the culture levels in likely spots to find the AIs. If they are too close or if I have too few stars immediately available to me, I ctrl-N again. THEN I set everything up, and begin to look around. Sometimes even after this I get a few turns in and find it wasn't as good as it looked, so I ctrl-N again.

Man, you guys are crazy with ctrl+N. I just ctrl+N until I get a class 18 or higher Earth. That's it. The game isn't fun if you are in an optimal position each time.

I always take what comes. Never ctrl+N.
Which is why I always play at normal level.

It is good fun trying to win from any starting position.

I would crtl-N if there were no decent planets nearby. I've seen an AI in a corner with no systems in the three sectors next to them, so they were trapped on their homeworld :/ This was on small though.

couple of times I've saved when racing to get a system or two...

damn demo!

damner lack of money! :(

I ctrl-n also, but only until I am able to set initial taxes at 45% with the 2% moral penalty. I don't like starts when 45% puts moral at 70%.

Of course, I will take a larger moral hit if the sector is sweet. lol
