The Influence Bug?

Well, I've just finished my first game and submitted to the Metaverse and since then I've actually been looking at some of the guides around.

It never occurred to me to build more than one starbase in a sector :SURPRISED:

Anyway, I like to play the McDonalds of space so Mercantile and extra picks on mostly trade and influence and I'm wondering if the influence bug of re-setting after saved games is effecting me.

I actually don't understand what is meant by this bug - does the overall influence score reset (that seemed the same to me) or the amount per sector? I'd appreciate any guidance people can provide. I'm not that interested in cultural victory - I was going for tech in the submitted game but had to change to alliance towards the end as I started to fall behind.

Thanks for any enlightenment people could provide.

In my experience, this has only happened when loading from a saved game. The influence of the AI's (and yourself) are set probably without taking into account any influence bonuses or SB's you have around. Once you click turn, though, it seems to get recalculated and goes back to where it was when the game was saved.

BTW, if you are looking for an empire to join, the MWC would be happy to have you.

Ah right, it's a short-term thing then. I'd noticed the research screen 'number of turns' remaining and the economics on the domestic screen were out immediately after a reload. Just part of that, then, so no problems.

Thanks for the explanation and the empire invite. I'll wait to see for a while on the latter but will bear it in mind :)

Yeah, there are some game data that are not saved but recalculated after a reload.

Since farmer Joe shamelessly promotes in your thread I might as well. Space Napoleon is needed to bolster the fortunes of the European Alliance. We'd love to have you, after all we had positive experiences with your ancestor ;)

Hi Lord Orpon - are all of you actually from Europe, because I am?

Mind you, I'm not from France :)

Most of the members in the European Alliance are from Europe. I'm from Belgium myself. We have members from almost every country I think. Not sure as not many register at our own forums.

Anyway, we'd be happy to have you among our midst.

Thanks for the info G-Force. I shall think about it - I'll have to see if I ever get the time to finish another game first :)

There are lots of interesting empires around, Space Napoleon.

Play a few games, lurk in the empire threads then make your choice.

Most importantly is to have fun. :)
