On choosing which political party...

Best that I can tell (and I am new to this game), your political control is based solely on your morale, and has nothing to do with your behaviour? What I mean by this, is that if you pick pacifist and obliterate your competition with huge armada's, no one in the senate is going to care as long as your morale is high...

Assuming this is true, I've got some interesting observations on the starting political party you choose:

First I looked at what it would cost in ability points to recreate the starting traits...

Fed bonus is worth 4 pts
Ind bonus is worth 4 pts
Mer bonus is worth 4 1/2 pts (becuase the pick is 15%/30%)
Pac bonus is worth 5 pts
Pop bonus is worth 5 pts
Tec bonus is worth 3 pts :SURPRISED:
Uni bonus is worth 4 pts
War bonus is worth 6 pts

Interesting?

As I see it, the only advantage to picking some parties, is assuming that you fully intend to max the abilities your bonus gives you. Else, why pick Tec when you can get their bonuses with only 3 attribute points? Yes, they're the only party that can get you the 70% reseach, right from the word go, but if you're not maximising your intial party bonuses, you could be losing out...

True, senate control is solely dependant on approval rating (morale) AFAIK.

Yes, interesting. The Technologists should get a boost.

Maybe we can get the devs to balance the parties all out to 5 pts worth of boni each in the next patch, even though this imbalance has been known for a long time...

the pacifiscts might not allow you to declare war when most of the other times the senate will go along with your little interplanetary misadventures. you can still sell a declaration of war to get around it though.

LOL... selling a declaration of war... so if your friends pay you money to pass on to your senators, they don't even hold a vote, even if they've believed all their life that war is not the answer...? :SURPRISED:
