How do trade emabrgos work?

I can see the small checkbox, but nowhere could I find an explanation of what exactly it does...

That's right. In earlier versions you couldn't stop another race from sending their freightors to your planets.
Another nice trade related feature is that you can now view another races trade routes -- if you've invested enough in espionage.

I can see where it's uses can be a benefit. One of the things I noticed that was a bit of a supprize, is how those mini-freighters could give a hoot about planet ownership.

I don't want to trade with the Yor.
The Yor have a trade route with minor X
I capture the minor world.
I now have a (free) trade route with the Yor.

Being that I was not the one to create the trade route, it does not show up on MY trade route list, and have no way to "cancel" the route.

Other side of the coin?

Was avoiding trade with the Yor
Had all my trade routes going to a minor.
Yor takes the minor.
All my trade routes stayed in effect, only now with the Yor.
If I chose to embargo, I would have cut my financial face off. lol

Keeping this in mind, the limit of 10 trade routes is a soft cap. Probably old news to some players, but others might say "wow".

When I take over a planet that has a trade route, it does show up in my route list... I've seen it quite regularly on several different versions. I've never checked to see if one of my own routes gets displaced or destroyed, though.

It doesn't, in my experience. These "captured" routes just gets added to blank slots.

A nice feature would be for me to be able to ask one race to embargo another. But this would be really too powerful. Maybe a UP vote to jointly embargo one race! Now that would be a killer too if I'm the unlucky one.
