Trade Goods...Again

I'm still having trouble understanding "trade goods." I fail to see what they're good for (except maybe influence?). Do they add to your revenue? The manual says you can license them, but doesn't say how. And if you do license them, what do you get in return? Any help appreciated!

Trade Goods are innovations that give you special effects.

'Diplomatic Translators' for example, give you +30% diplomacy.

Initially, only the race that discovers them can get the benefits, but you can 'lease them out' in trades, so that the recievers get the benefits and you get something else in the trade. They are essenitally trade-able Galactic Wonders.

Once you lease them out to a rival civ, is there a way to turn off that lease? Or are you stuck with it until warring with the civ you gave it to?

Actually you cant even take it back when you goto war
with them. Once you give them a trade good, its
theirs forever. Same goes for you though, on receiving
a trade good.

When you have a trade good like Aphrodisiacs, go see your pals (f.e. the Torians), tell them "do you want Aphrodisiacs? Please give me these 3 techs" and here's a deal. You can get lots of money for a trade good from less than incredible ai's. Plus trade goods help by themselves. I love Gravity accelerators for example. Tri-strontium steel is good for warfare too (better to have it than leave it to someone you don't like)
