Newbie influence bonuses question.

Sorry if this is double posted -the first one doesn't appear to have come up.

How do you tell whether a bonus is for your whole empire or just a sector/planet/starbase? I'm thinking particularly of the influence ones on starbases.

The bonus given by mining a resource is empire-wide--so the influence bonuses are empire-wide if you get them from mining those blue cubes (ie Mining Barracks, HQ, resource refinery, and so on), and only sector-wide if you get them from things like Foreign Relations Centers and Culture Palaces (though they will affect adjacent sectors as well).

Thanks muchly. Am I right in thinking that 'star influence' affects all the plannets around that star (thus having more planets on one star lets you get all those bonuses more times cummulatively or don't they stack?)?

I take it there is no other way than mining resources to gein empi-re wide bonuses? (I haven't got to know the technology tree yet -is there something there?)

Actually there plenty of other ways to get 'empire wide bonuses' . . . build it and they will come . . . ;)

I think star influence is the total influence generated by all the planets orbitting that star.

Some Wonders, a couple trade goods, and a few technologies increase influence empire-wide.

Another quick on the same lines (I've found some wonders and goods noe :-). When I upgrade my Starbases it offers me a 'mining' option. Am I right in thinking that that is an improvement on my Empire-wide bonus for the resource?

I have a lot of bases in the middle of nowhere (tight clusters and the Drengin got stuck in the corner ;) so that matters quite a bit.

Resource mining bonuses (like bonuses for Wonders and Trade Goods and for researching technologies) are empire wide. You can get up to 68% bonus from a resource starbase if you have the right technologies.
Other starbase bonuses are sector wide. If you build factory type bonuses, eg +5% productivity, it applies to all planets in that sector.
Starbase trade bonuses apply to the little automated mini-freighters only while they are passing through the sector that the base is in.
Culture bonuses spread out, so they will have still have some effect a couple of sectors away.

As Matthew Downie said, with the clarification that the "mining" bonuses relating to production only apply within the sector.

It sounds like you're someone who likes to develop their starbases with as much "influence" as possible. Come join us in the Pangaea Cooperative Empire where we specialise in converting with Party Palaces (backed up with Terror Stars).

Well I had killed most of my enemies and controlled all the sectors but it still wouldn't acknowledge that i had the 90% for the cultural vicotry -does it go by total influence accumulated?
At that point I decided to convert as many planets as possible.

If I understand the question correctly, I believe that for a cultural victory, you need to turn the map Terran blue and keep it that way for an entire year (12 months).

and you can't be at war with anyone else, and I *think* that there's some minimum time that must have passed since the start of the game. Not sure about that last though.

I think Ray said there are three things that affect cultural wins.
1) not at war with anyone including minors
2) I think he stated you can't win before the year 2190
3)and you must keep 90% or better for 12 months straight with no dropping to 89% or below.

I hope I quoted you correctly Ray.
