New CTD problem with GCX

There has to be something still wrong with the CTD bug, it started to crash shortly after I destroyed a colony. This is different because when I got back in to 'restore saved game' it loaded but immediately crashed again. Over and over, until I went back to the 'previous autosave' and it loaded back up. I still had the problem and now it won't let me back into my game, it keeps crashing, but I don't feel like calling the game quits after putting the time that I did into it.

Has anyone else experienced a similiar CTD problem like mine? Or is mine a whole new ballgame?

It's, I think is a throw back to the older well know but never really fixed problem associated with destoying collonies . . . I still get it too! It's annoying . . . do you have an earlier save on standby, a pre-saved game? Mmm . . . send the game or Smart Exception log to CariElf, I'm sure she'd be very interested to have a look at it . . . good luck.

Alternatively, just don't destroy the colony? I know thats no concilation though.

I thought that was fixed in this revision.I can destroy new colonies or ones that I invade and tear up by invasion tactics with no problem.

Maybe when I downloaded fresh copy after upgrading system that was the fix.I know after years in computer industry that sometimes just patching games or OS that problems arise.DA how long has it been since fresh reload of game?I do't know if this helps you.Have you just been downloading the patches all along?

i dont think its revolving around destroying colonies, but more on loading games. Ive CTD at least once in an hour in which i loaded a game, even if i didnt destroy colonies. Whenever i load, it CTD eventually. If i play thru from my starting point, i dont CTD. Problem lies somewhere in saving/loading games i think.

How would I do that? Normally I wouldn't bother with it because it usually doens't cause this type of problem. However since I can't get back into my game I would consider this a problem.

I normally wouldn't but I find it cheaper to use 'Mass Drivers' to get rid of slimely aliens, and when I do I usually end up with a planet with quality below 15. I don't need that kind of money sink hole.

For I time I didn't have Stardock and I was playing the regular game, but I have since upgraded with the patches and the expansion. What do you mean by a fresh reload? Like reinstalling it? Because I haven't done that. I haven't upgrade patches since GCX.

I have autosave set every two turns hoping to reduce the lost turns when I have a CTD.

What operating system are you using? Just curious?

I'm using XP, I think most people dispelled that as the cause, but we won't know for sure.

Thinking lateraly . . . (I'm no expert on the games flaws) you could give the collony to an ally . . . or even an enemy for 1 influence point? :D

Interesting, sell it off to someone.

I just might do that. You think I'll get anything good for it?

That still doesn't solve the problem of me not being able to get back into my game. I have three saves: 'autosave' 'previous autosave' and 'saved' neither one of them allows me back into my unfinished game.

Have you downloaded the last patch already?

It did the funniest thing. I was playing and the game literally froze on me. I couldn't get out of it. So I did something drastic. I uninstalled the game and am in the process of downloading everything again. It just was pissing me off.

You need to move to a better empire, the evil thingy is getting into your computer. LOL LOL LOL

If you want me to take a look at the game, zip your save game folder and e-mail it to me at [email protected].  If you have any mods, I'll need those too.

I see, and which empire would you suggest for an Illinoisian?

No I don't use mods...yet, the game itself is still preplexing without adding mods or multimedia.

That would help. While you're at it see what caused the game to freeze, and an extension of that why I couldn't get the game to close. I had to restart my computer.

Thanks in advance.

Generally total game lockups are caused by conflicts with video or sound drivers, or bad codecs.  I would advise running dxdiag to see if it reports any errors.  If there are any newer video or sound drivers, it may help to upgrade those and your version of directx if you aren't running the latest version.  Also run scandisk and disk defrag.

Certain programs like WinDVD are known to have buggy codecs, which can be safely removed. Do you have any media players other than Windows Media Player installed on your system?

Well, if you are admitting that you are an Illinoisian, your Manifest Destiny lies with the Mid-Western Confederation! LOL

I wasn't having the problem before when I overhauled my system, i.e. I put in a new motherboard, processer, and video card, however I did put a Real One media player on. I don't have WinDVD, thats why I have a regular DVD player. Speaking of DVD's I just picked up Matrix Reloaded and watched it. God that trilogy is going kick butt. Anyways I got a little off subject. So you think my new media ware would cause the problem, Cari?

Yes, kasualkid, I am an Illinoisian and proud of it. However, be that as it may, I like fighting for the underdog, i.e. the small empire, even though I don't make that big a difference. Also, I may at one point leave the Evil Empire, but as long as its members stay active I have no reason now.
