Sound?

When I insert my Galactic Civ cd into the drive I get music but once i start installing/playing the game it's dead quiet and in fact over rides anything else on my computer that makes sound. Like i play the game exit and turn on my winamp, no sound. Is there some sort of patch I'm missing or am i just screwed because my copy is defective?

Winamp has a defective audio codec that messes up galciv and vice versa.Since they renamed couple pages I can no longer point out to you where the good codec replacement is.It used to be on the drengin.net tab above under faq/troubleshooting page.

First, thank you.

Second, saddly I installed and rebooted said codec to no avail. I still have no sound once the game starts.

Edit: I just tried reinstalling, still no sound.

http://www.radgametools.com/ and download and install tools.might help but not sure.

Hmmmm, well we are getting closer to a solution. The Bink tools allow me to now listen to the .mp3s from the game. Before if i tried that all i got was silence, and i can watch the videos they have sound. But after uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, patching and reboting still no sound in game.

*sighs*

Next goto microsoft and upgrade your directx to version 9.0b.Make sure its this one as the 9.0 had a few bugs.To check which version you have
click start and then run.
In the run box type 'dxdiag'(without apostrophe) and hit enter.
After loading and dx does its thing look at general tab.Somewhere it will tell you version.
If this fails then I would download all available microsoft patches for operating system.
Next go to video and the audio manufactorers websites and see if newer drivers are available.
If this still doesn't correct problem then hopefully Carielf will notice your posts and help you.
