My Experience Buying GalCiv

from Stardock Forums
So I played through the demo...twice...and decided that I really liked GalCiv. I checked out the different places that sell GalCiv and looked for the cheapest price. CompUSA had it for $25! I checked out CompUSA's website and they said my store had it available in "Limited Quantities" but I didn't find out how limited til I got there.

I made my way to the games section, longingly looking towards the Age of Mythology board game. Sadly, I only brought the $25 for GalCiv, so I began my search. After about 10 minutes of looking, I realized it wasn't there. I went up and asked a guy to check the inventory to see if it's in stock, and he told me that only ONE is left and that might just be a mistake and there could be NONE! Aww, I almost broke down crying. I began checking through each game, hoping maybe GalCiv was on the wrong shelf...and I was correct. Behind a stack of "Freedom Fighter"s I found it and yelled out "Yes!" I got a few strange looks, but I had accomplished my goal. Now it's time to install and play :-)

I don't think you will regret your purchase. I liked the part about basically resorting to a search and destroy mission of the store, rummaging through the shelves in a desperate attempt to find it. :)

you WILL Regret it .... not only is there no support ... but the game just keeps getting made easier and easier to accomodate the whiners and the maso players ...

There is great support here....
and Things are definatly not getting easier..
If it wasn't for the community here then I wouldn't be playing the game I lost over 12 games straight (on Cakewalk level) I felt like an idiot.. even though I am good (some say a deva at stratagy games) Galciv is one game that has unique stratagies and is far from easy. Without help its a very hard game to master. As for your thing about lack of support.. have you even bothered to email the support at stardock.com.. What exactly is your problem.. I see you have not been successfull in submitting games.. are you usding a firewall program. what are the error status msgs your getting when you try to submit a game..

The Crew at stardock have many programs that they are supporting and improving. The problems lately have been due to moving servers (they are still working on them as we speak). Stardock is definatly one of the Top companies as far as support goes.. (I know.. because I alpha/beta test for several companies) you definatly wouldn't get some companies staff inputting like they do here.. say from microsoft.. eg: Links 2003 is buggy.. and it took them ober 7 months to get a patch out for it and it still doesn't fix all the known bugs.. GalCiv has had many many updates and stardock IS listening to the users of their products.

All that being said they can't please everyone all the time.. (although they do try :) )

as for you saying ":you WILL Regret it ..." it should read that "I (Droid5150) Regret it.."

Nope, I'm in New Hampshire. I play as pure good, never deviating. So far, I'm not regretting my purchase, but I have some questions. Well, only one right now. Why did my planet start at 1 morale and how come I wasn't able to raise it for more than 1 turn? I lost the planet to some Independant League because of the morale :-\

For morale, make sure you dont tax too high, and build social improvements like the Entertainment Center that improve morale.

Nighthawk,

Did you colonize a planet that was lower than PQ14? Those planets are unsuitable for life and receive a fierce penalty when colonized. Try colonizing PQ15's and above.

Feel free to join the Kingdom of Aldar (which is centered in Northern Vt).

Regarding morale:
1. It can be improved by lowering the tax rate.
2. Clicking on the Details button in the lower left corner and maxing out the propoganda slider will help keep the masses happy.
3. Important to only colonize 15 and higher planets early in the game.
4. Build Soil Enhancement, Banking Center, Entertainment Network, News Network, and Habitat Improvement as quick as possible (order after Soil is subject to debate - this order seems to work well for Maso). For the other levels I would move Habitat to 3rd in the list.
5. If all else fails, build transports (Combat transports hold more people) and move most of the population to a nicer planet.

Droid can you stop bugging people with your rethoric whinning/complaining/I don't know what else. If you don't like the game just stop playing it, it is you against a bunch of people who enjoy the game. Take a break, enjoy life, find other things to do and when you are again back into your senses then comeback, but stop the cursing, the use of profanities and grow up. Life is more than playing a game. :notsure:

JNighthawk, your planet might have been overpopulated. The other factors mentioned in this thread, in conjunction with overpopulation, lead to low morale.
