How the Score adjustments work?

If the game makers want people to feel good about the Metaverse, then please explain to my humble self how it works.

I have a posted user score(John Hughes) of 19,457 points. OK a loss or two is in but well I lost those ones, better 136 in a loss than zero for a NO THANKS right?

What I can't figure is why the Metaverse shows my adjusted score as 6486 points???

I understand a downgrade for a simple game setting, NEWBS have to start somewhere right? But after you hit Medium and then Challenging what gives?

Do the top scorers deal with this as well and how does a 30K posted score get marked? 10K would seem about right, or is MASO the only true system of scoring left?

Sorry about all the questions. Just seems to defeat the purpose of defeating the enemy when 5700 turns into alot less on the other end.

Great game BTW. Hooked hard and I guess that is why I am griping. If I didn't care right. ;~)

So what gives??

Here's how the scoring system works as I know it.
First everything is blocked into 31 day blocks.
2nd to get your adjusted total for a block of days, add all your scores together and divide by the square root of the number of games in that block.

For example if your first 4 games you have scores of 100, 1000, 3000 and 5000 then your adjusted score is.

8110/4 = 2055

Unfortunately this means that low scores hurt you. There is a bright side though. Every 31 days you start fresh. Meaning if you wait a month and submit a 10000 point game your score will go up by 10000.

Finally, your games from earlier months will gradually decay in value so those losses you have posted will eventually hurt your overall score very little.

If I've screwed up in this explanation could someone please correct me :)

Finally if you really want to score high you do have to play maso lvl. Check out the thread entitled New Number One for some good maso tips and if you can stand it there is a lot of good information in the Maso Strategies thread in the Strategies forum and in some other threads in the Strategy forum.

Playing maso is really like playing an entirely different game.

Im guessing that you saw the game summary list your player score as 19,457. Unfortunately, this score means jack. The metaverse score thats listed under that is what will be submitted to the metaverse. This number is typically a lot less than the game score. Dont ask me why, cause I dont know.

Whoops, I knew that just screwed it up.

So in my example your score is 8110/2 = 4055.

Was past my bed time when I posted :)

John, a "No Thanks" means you don't post the game to the metaverse; not at all the same as posting a zero.

Version 1.1 is different than 1.05 so make sure you check what version you are playing. In 1.05 the scoring was pretty linear from beginner to maso but in 1.1 there is a big spike for maso scoring. Maso points have roughly doubled comparing 1.1 to 1.05.

So, most high scorers in the 1.1 era play maso but not everyone. You can still get a high metaverse score and make the top 50 by submitting many lower scoring (preferably 10k mpts or better) games. As mentioned, you don't have to submit losses or if something funny happens and you get an anomalous (0 mpts) score. So the metaverse rewards you not only for difficulty but also for persistently submitting many games over many weeks. Just make sure to have fun and keep playing. Good luck. :)

Thanks to all respondants. It all makes some kind of sense now ;-) Small score may have to stay home from now on. :~)

Not sure I am ready for a Maso game just yet but I am turning up the heat gradually. I have read many of the great tips and advice on the Forum. Truly a different game everytime out. Here's hoping for a Xpack in Dec.
