innate star influence

I just realized that the influence associated with a star seems to be an apparently random number innate to that star. Even stars that have crappy planets or stars with no planets at all can still have influence associated with them.

I recently discovered a star with a natural 38 influence but the best planet it has is a PQ 10. Would it be worth it to colonize a 10 PQ planet just to get the 38 influence from it? It's one of the best influence stars in the galaxy, but it's about 3 sectors away from the nearest enemy sector so I'm not sure how much good it would do to have to pay thru the nose to keep that planet going.

It depends entirely on you game (and whether you have any mods installed, for that matter).

Assuming the base game and no events, it's possible to get that planet up to class 15 after terraforming, but you'll need to get the Terraformer wonder to do so. With events, it's concievable to reach class 19 without the Terraformer or class 21 with it.

(With all the library mods installed, it's possible to hit class 30-some without events or the Abandomed Terraformer anomoly.)

That depends. The larger your empire, the less the 38 base points will mean. An alien is very unlikely to take a PQ 10, so it should be open all game to later human colonization. On a map with few systems, or if your empire is at an influence disadvantage all around, it would be wise to colonize that system mid game after the colonization rush is over and you are building a decent economy that can support your empire. On a larger map where you are doing well with influence, this planet can be ignored. As for myself, being an influence junky who loves culture wins, I would always take this planet as soon as I am making consistent profits every turn.

Play evil, save and load until you get at least a +40% PQ colonization event. No worries

Exactly why I think Stardock needs to find a way to address this cheat. It gives an unfair advantage to evil players, who, let's face it, suck. I am not sure what they suck, but I know I rather they wouldn't.

Which is why I specifically mentioned it in a paranthetical note starting 'With all the library mods installed.'

The Terraformer I was referring to the first time is the Terraformer wonder.
