Star List and "Best Planet"

I hoped to use the Star list feature for colonization - but alas, the "best planet quality" sorting is not implemented...
Taking into account that many other sorting orders that ARE there seem to be much lees useful, I think it's a shame. Would it be too hard to add "best planet quality" to the sorting orders available?

It's already there...sort by Class. That will give you your best planets first. :)

I think he means a list of uncolonized systems/planets, sorted by PQ. (would be nice)

Well, I guess I could sort it by the pq of the best planet in the system.

Yes would be nice, because sometimes you have a planet PQ1, then a PQ12, then a PQ7, PQ19, PQ15 and you get confussed, sometimes.

Wow, sorting the uncolonized planets? How would that work? They would only become available to be sorted after you discover that part of the map?

This seems awfully hard to code...

Not really, you can have a flag that activates the code revealing the uncolonized planets after certain coordinates have been reach by your exploration vessel.

If this could be translated to real life and you were exploring the area you would send probes to all the planets at the same time getting a feedback on the characteristics of each one. Myself in particular I would love to be able to establish minning colonies on some of those planets with PQ lower than 12 and that have reserves of minerals, instead of using the starbases for mineral purposes, I look at the starbases more like a center of cultural and commerce exchange.

I was thinking more along the line of an option to "list potential colonization targets", that would give systems or planet names, and their PQ. I don't think it would be that hard to code a simple planet list (with perhaps an option to send closest colony ship) on one of the empire tab screens. Just a thought. Of course, this would be a lot more usefull on gigantic galaxies than tiny ones.

I just want a "find system" option. I got an event that stated something along the lines that "while exploring the XXXXX system, an artifact was found that dramatically increased the planet's PQ".. I was not able to find the damn system. IIRC, tho, that option is comming in one of the next updates. :)

Theoden: a planet list of uncolonized planets wouldn't be hard to code, but it would be hard to code it in an optimal way.  That was going to be originally part of the first expansion pack, along with the star list, but it was so huge that updating and sorting it was taking too long.

Hi!
It seems an interesting idea, but I usually use millimetric paper (I don't know if you call it this way in english, probably not because of the metric system), a paper that is like a squared paper, but with little squares.
I then design the map and do notes on the paper, it works well (I used such things for other games like civilization and it worked fine).

To CariElf: I see that you are a "senator" and your empire is "stardockians" ; it means that you are a developer of the game or something like that??
What does it mean "senator" ?
And, what do the little icons under every post mean?
Is there a guide to recognize them??

Thanks!

Click on the "Metaverse" icon at the top of the page. When it loads, check out the navigation icons on the left side of the page. You'll see one called "Legend;" this leads to a page describing the icons.

You'll see a lot of players also have an "Imperial" icon on their profiles. Joining a group of like-minded players adds another dimension to the game. You can check out the empires through the Imperial threads on the Forum.

Noticed that you hadn't received an answer to your other questions...

Millimetric paper is called "graph paper" over here Stateside - I'm not sure if it's called the same in England, not to mention Australia. English is usually a case of one language, and several opinions on how to say something!

The great CariElf is, indeed, one of the developers of the game - and much, much more. "Senator" is a sign of her "rank" here in the Metaverse, as given out by Stardock, the game developers. You start out as a "Citizen" and work your way up by being seen by Stardock as someone who contributes to the community. This is totally different from the military ranks of "Lieutenant," "Commander" etc. that are given out based on your submitted games.

But pretty much everybody here just goes by their name; "Obi-Wan," for example, is fine. Just "Senator" or even "Jedi" sounds too much like a job description. :D

Enjoy the game, and enjoy your stay here in the Forums.

A player can only go up to Ambassador. After that you need to be employed by Stardock.I think the last 3 are diplomat, senator and avator are all associated with the game developers in some way.IIRC.

No diplomat is between Veteran and Ambassador. Governor is another Stardock employee one though.

Another way to tell if it's a Stardock employee is the little Stardock Icon at the bottom of our posts. You guys can see that, right?

Yup! :)

Woohoo!!! I got the post after CariElf!!!!
