Technology victory will be a possible achievement for the alien races in the expansion pack. This change will cut down on the number of technology wins, and will force the players to try aiming for the other victory conditions at the same time.

Don't worry about it.

I just got a 2800 points only Gigantic masochistic Beyond Human victory. So you can get less points. I think the point is not that the scoring system or the tech win is unbalanced. I think the problem lies with the gigantic aspect of the data. If you could check for small or tiny galaxies, I believe the results would be different.
Here's why:
Mopping up at end game is boring. Tech win is not so tedious, because all you have to do is hit end turn. So when on a gigantic map, it's more pleasant to end technologically than otherwise. I know I wanted to check if I could muster another kind of victory in my game rather than get Final Frontier, and decided not to because I'd get bored. If this is the case, I can't see how you can fix it, nor so I think there is a problem.

Allowing the AI to win by tech victory would have
no effect on my scores(assuming no other changes)
as the AI never gets close to a tech victory.

I am assuming there will be other changes to
improve the AI's chance of getting to a tech victory
before a human player.

As for doing a tech victory to avoid mopping up...
Naw, you go for a tech victory because its worth
more, pure and simple. The reason your tech victory
was not worth much is just because you didnt take
over the entire galaxy, in my games I take everything
over but 1 sector. This results in a large pop
which results in a large score. The only reason
I dont win by culture is because I disable it at
startup and I avoid alliance and military victory
cause they are worth less.

Hmm??? I'm not playing to the tech victory. I just hate this victory type in TBS games.

Staffa, that's because you play to get points. To me that's not fun, so spending an hour on a won game is of no interest to me. I think the ai should just surrender in the conditions you describe, thus you wouldn't get the tech victory but a military one, and the 'problem' would vanish.

No it wouldn't, it would just become a matter of timing
the 'AI's preception of defeat to coincide with some
moment in time after I determine i want the game to end.
I do not object to your objection, but your
solution is flawed.

And yes, the games I post I played for points for
myself and my team, and yes I enjoy that. They do
not represent all my games.

My problem with the system is why should a tech win get you more points at all? The path to getting it is the same as the path to any other win, use the culture bomb. The base problem with the game is imo that the culture bomb is too easy a tool to use.

What I would prefer is when someone turns the cultural victory option off, the game automatically removes all possibilities of culture flipping from the game.
