How to sell and upgrade ships

I want to know that if it is possbile to sell you ships if you have too many. Also, for ships that have already been built, can they be upgraded when new relevant tech has been researched

Ships can be sold to other civs, or scrapped.
Upgrading ships doesn't exist but ships do upgrade automatically when you get new bonuses (usually from techs, like +10 weapons, but also trade goods for +hp and anomalies). This doesn't change a frigate into an excalibur, but a +100 attack frigate is twice as effective as a +0 frigate.

You can't actually sell you ships, but you can trade them for tech's, influence point, other ships (and money) with the AI (thru the diplomacy screen)

I'm afraid they can't be upgraded..

I like to give them away instead of scrapping. makes the recipent quite happy. :) (read: minors)
