Need for speed

Is it me or is this site slowing down more and more each day? Every time I get on here I'm finding I have to wait and wait for pages and forums to load. Many times I have to reboot my pc in order to get anywhere. Now don't get me wrong, there are some days when I don't have this problem and the pages load fine, but more often than not I'm waiting.

Added comment since I also find I often can't edit my posts either.

There are also many times when pages simply don't load at all. This happens mostly in the forums. So what has happened to the speed we were told we would have? Is it still in the works or is this it?

no#1 their working even as we speak or write
2. Scroll to bottom of page hit the site meter that could show some reasons
3. The site is still new Still have some renovations to be done.(in the program) it was built from the ground up.
4. Their having to use pestacides for all the buggs they keep finding, and trying to find the source.
5. They are working around the clock to fix the problems and changing things to make it better and answering our questions.
6. Continue to do business as usual.

My self I think there doing one excellent job. And between you and me if I were to see there to do list, you would be picking me off the floor.

I hope this might help

I think it seems to be slowing down. In fact I just got upgraded in speed on my connection from 3 megabit to 4 megabit and it seems WC got a bit slower. the new WC should of had the bugs worked out and then some before iot was put online.

I have to agree with Kona...many of the bugs should have been worked out before switching over, at least that is what I would have done with a site that is so popular. I fully realize that bugs and glitches are part of life on the net, but I kinda expected a little better of our new home.

And aren't subscribers on a dedicated server?

Yes and that's the sad part of it all...

That's the tell-tale.  Usually when checking the number it's around 900 to 1200.

These are situations that cannot be catered for prior to going online with the new site.

It wasn't until the site was in full public use that any speed issues could be tested and resolved...

I noticed the same. WC is not accessible during the evenings for me anymore due to constant "timing-out", "page not found" and "server overload" errors. Even during early mornings, the forums are soooooo slow and often just don't load at all.

I thought so, but I can't help thinking that this is no longer the case. I am aware that the site is still under construction, but I agree with kona that more screening should have been done before the switch.

Remember when we where (slighlty) annoyed by the d e l e t e -bug on the old site? Right now I wish the old site back.

But I try to be patient, and things will hopefully improve soon.

I also think the new format has made the forum a lot more visible than the old messageboard and therefore more folks are using it.

I don't visit this messageboard much anymore. Waiting two minutes to open a thread tests my patience and I invariably click onto another website before the page loads.

The new site was supposed to be soooo much faster. It is, in fact, much slower than the old site    I've been here fifteen minutes now and this is only the third thread I've been in

I know, I can't even open the Marathon Thread. I get a Timeout. That's probably way it's the whole way on the third page by now.

I just thought of something. Only because it happens to my site alot. What about search bots? Do they register as people on that count? Plus they have to slow the system down some too. I know between my forum and website, it gets spidered alot, sometimes too much. The one time, msn search refreshed my photo gallery 234 times in a min or somewhere around that. I could look to find the exact amount but that isn't my point. Ever since they changed the format and put the referal thing. There could be a large chance that the bots could be swamping the servers also.

If you check out this link -> http://waoarea.com/bbclone/ look at the robot numbers. This was set up 12/20/2004 and I got hit that many times by robots. It's even a small site. Then if you check the details, anything in a red highlight is a bot, from there you can see how often they hit. That's my visual proof

Ok, done with that idea.

I know what you mean Fuzzy...I'm sorry to say it's to the point that I'm not here that much anymore. Except when I hit a time when the pages load, then I try to respond to as many threads as I can. But usually it doesn't last.

I feel if this isn't resolved soon it's going to hurt this site alot. And considering all these problems, not just the forums, I'd be putting the old site back up until this stuff is ironed out a lot better. Because if people who are already subscribers are unhappy with this, I can't imagine many new people signing up. I can imagine people saying things like...man...if their site is this slow...whats their software like? Not a good thing. I hope things are speeded up soon.

Webgizmos, I have been having the same problems, and others as well. When I try to edit in the forums I usually end up with 2 identicle posts! Smile!

It's just getting more and more frustrating. Just about every morning/evening now I'm getting 404 errors...server down...pages not loading...post a comment and it doesn't get entered...

I really hate to bitch, but each day is more problems.

I remember when I used to handwrite letters and mail them. ...no real point, I guess. Sometimes I just open my mouth and words fall out.

letters? ... what's that? ...you mean "lettuce"?
