In-game Difficulty (and a gripe)

No doubt I'm overlooking something obvious, but once playing, how do you determine the difficulty level? I cleverly named some saved games A, B, C, & D (with year and month), so they are neatly organized but I don't remember which is which. I think "A" was "Challenging" and "C" is "Maso" but I don't remember if "B" is "Crippling" or "Maso" . . .

And the gripe: there should be a Yes/No confirmation on "Quit Game" -- I spent about five minutes launching the game and loading a large map, then clicked the wrong button on the Menu screen. >:(

I've done that too. Annoying.

When you save, just name it Masosmall1a then if you save the same game later masosmall1b then ...1c

I just use my nickname (toto) plus a letter for the game M=masso, C=crippling, T=tough, etc and also you could add another letter for the map size, the date and hour are automatically embeded in the save game.

Example of what I am talking about:

toto1M-s= toto1Maso-small, I sometimes during the game I saved the game just in case I blow it up later on, and then it becomes toto2M-s, or toto3M-s, and so forth and so on.

Call me crazy, but my savegames are called Game One, Game Two, etc. etc.

I don't bother with saving along the way. If I make a mistake, I just live with it and try to make the best of it.

I used to save intermittently along the way... but that took up too much space. So now I just keep one save of each game, which I overwrite whenever I want to set a hard save in addition to the autos. I simply name them maso1, maso2, maso3 (obviously they're all masos.. if I played lower I'd name them accordingly)... so far I'm up to 23 I believe for my current game.

I just have a "last" save game. And the autosave on ecery turn in case of crash.
Hermann, it's easy to tell whether you're playing maso: Incredible ai's are the only ones who refuse to buy anything for a decent number of BCs. So go in the diplo menu, ask teh Drengin if they would give you, say, 100BC in exchange of Earth. If they look like they won't accept the deal, then you're on maso. I actually didn't check which figure is needed, but you get the idea.
For other levels, you may want to look at the information about races in the diplomacy section, and check the text desciption. That depends on alignment and intelligence. A bit painful, though.

I save a ridiculous number of times, using names like B219410 BrinkOfWar.sav -- which is Game B, year and month, just before attacking the Altarians to end the game. Turned out to have been "Crippling" and I posted it today. I think "C" is "Maso" and "D" is "LessSo" ;)
