Galactic Civilizations: Altarian Prophecy

Galactic Civilizations: Altarian Prophecy

This will become a sticky but the short story is, we've decided to go ahead and make a premum expansion pack for GalCiv players.

The main features will be:

+ A campaign called "The Altarian Prophecy"

+ A Scenario editor (which will allow users to create their own campaigns and scenarios)

+ A Map editor

+ 2 new races

+ LOTS of new complex random events.

+ New Metaverse ranking category: Scenario leaders (we don't want to penalize people who play scenarios by not counting their scores so what we'll do is have scenarios have their own rankings -- plus that could be a lot of fun where people create scenarios and compete to be best at them).

Target date: January 2004. We'll be taking pre-orders starting in early November. Price: $19.95.

The premium expansion pack development should NOT affect the release dates of GalCiv 1.12 (Nov) or GalCiv 1.2 (Dec) nor will it affect the feature set of those two things.

In other words, those who don't buy the the expansion pack will not be penalized in any way. GalCiv standard will be getting a logistics ability.

Oh btw, the map editor has a really cool 3D engine. I wish we could have our main map like that editor. ;)

Oh, and yes - I remember you said something about a bigger map then gigantic - but I didn't see that in the list of features. Can we still expect that, and are there any other features we can look forward to? (extra tech, extra wonders, etc.).

What form is the campaign going to take? Will it be made up of a number of scenarios which progressively get harder, which seems to be the norm with strategy game campaigns?

The Scenarios's idea is brilliant. Let's see what Brad comes up with. Think about the mods we can expect! ;)

:) Would be good for us to reclaim our deserved and rightful #1 spot in the metaverse ;)

I hope not. I'd rather have it be a scenario a la civ2 (though Spartakus and co. was actually a set of linked scenarios) or CtP2's Alexander scen, with game-breaking events happening at certain times or under certain conditions, rather than the usually uninspiring (for me) succession of "and now a harder map". Whatever it be, though, it will be better than nothing, but I really hope there will be events.
I can even link to what I think are good civ2 scenarios if you like ;) .

I agree with you LDiCesare, that's why I was asking. If the campaign turns out to be a progression of harder maps I probably wouldn't bother with it. Doesn't mean I definitely won't buy the expansion though.
