I'm having a hard time motivating myself to start another game. Killa's Novels thread has gotten me interested in reading instead....

I may do a game a week until the next release...

I hear that, and copy. I've been playing Warcraft III this week, except for my pit stop in to GC 1.12 for a One Planet Challenge, because I was needing a fix.

I'm going stir crazy waiting for the next patch. Sweeps month in the States is over, and the holidays are here, so there's nothing on TV except repeats. :notsure:

My wife insisted on watching the wedding of two reality show stars last night so I got a game in.... the American networks are focusing on shows with minor celebreties they invent - so they don't have to pay them. I'm cynical enough to say that this doesn't effect the overall quality of the shows -- unfortunately, this particular series is edited so badly that it's nearly unwatchable.

I gotta check out Battlestar, good suggestion!

Harel - thanks on his behalf but he's twelve years old - it's those younger operatives who have the toddlers!! He's just become interested in Warhammer minatures, so we splashed out on paints and models for him (it was model aircraft in my day).

Hey - just for the sake of cultural exchange: what is "Sweeps month"?

Wombie: Sweeps month is the month when the TV networks try running specials and new shows to boost their ratings. Basically, they want to be able to beat the other networks. Sounds like the Metaverse...

Ahhh...model airplanes! Nothing better than sitting down and building a model. I always hated the decals, though.

I used to love the Warhammer and Battletech minatures at around 11-14. I always thought painting them was the best part...

Twice a year advertisers closely monitor the amount of viewers watching each channel in order to establish advertising rates. This is done in November. So of course, the networks put all there best stuff on. Then they play mostly junk through the holidays. If fact, we're already starting to get reruns on a television season that started in September... and in some cases October.

Theoden/Cypher - thanks for the info. You mean they only monitor ratings twice a year? There are similar stretches here but the monitoring lasts longer and runs throughout the year; Aussies can always tell the difference between 'ratings period' and non-ratings period, I can tell you...

A.C. Nielsen monitors ratings year-round, but "sweeps" periods are traditional periods when the advertisers actually evaluate all the data. Shows that are doing poorly in the ratings are cancelled year-round. This year, in particular, has been lackluster for new American television series, with only a couple of notable newbies. Not really a bad thing, as it leaves more time for the PC.
