General Questions

First, I thought I read somewhere that you could get the game AI to act like a particular player or something, but I don't know where I read that or how it worked or if I'm just hallucinating and maybe I never read it at all...

Second, is it just me, or does it seem like the AI, being able to see ALL stars at ALL times is a worse cheat than any production bonuses? I can't help feeling a little disillusioned about the so-called "incredible" AI when it's able to know exactly which planets are worth colonizing right from day 1.

Last, great game, even if the AI is less honorable than I previously thought.

This is the eventual plan for the metaverse, I believe it's still very far from done though.

doogles, you're probably thinking of a feature of the Metaverse whereby Stardock analyzes the games that are uploaded in order to improve their AI routines, based on how they got beaten. It has been mentioned that an AI may be modeled almost completely on a top player who can beat the game consistently at the highest level, but as Geoffrey said, I don't believe that any particular player's strategies have been incorporated to date.

With all that being said though.. Stardock has definatly been working on the AI making it a lot tuffer. In my opinion Galciv has the best AI in this type of game.. lots of varients.. and the way thr AI players seem to approach things.. IE: not just clones of each other.. All in All it does provide very interesting games time after time after time..

Ahhh, so it's an idea mostly for playing against another player's AI, not yet in. Too bad, that would have been interesting.

The ai doesn't see what's on your stars. IT uses sensor ranges, doesn't it?

Not from what I have seen. Example:

I had an invasion fleet of transports (non-combat) for a strike against the Torians, whom I was not at war with. They had fairly high pop planets and my entire fleet would have had a problem taking more than one system. I did have them escorted though so that they would not become fodder. I started a war with them, and removed the orbiting defenders at a system of mine several sectors away. They launched their transports and headed straight for my.... ahem... undefended system. With the loss of planetary population, the conquest was fairly easy. Mwahahaha.

Love a good ruse. Thats what they get for having an all seeing A-eye.
