Alternative Top Empire Ranking

I thought it might be interesting to look at the Top Empires by average score per overlord and also per battle.

Average per Overlord - Official Ranking in parenthesis

1 (8) Special Forces 172877
2 (22) Fat Bastard 109834
3 (15) Republic of Aldar 88307
4 (9) Evil Empire 71658
5 (1) The Jedi Republic 53842
6 (18) PanGaea Cooperative 45242
7 (2) Fellowship of the Ring 40491
8 (4) Mid-Western Confederation 34149
9 (6) The ANZACs 31190
10 (5) G.R.O.S.S. 31108
11 (25) Illuminati 30509
12 (23) Adventurers Inc. 25822
13 (12) Realms Beyond 24693
14 (14) Babylonia 23422
15 (17) Terran Federation 19674
16 (3) European Alliance 16065
17 (21) Space Arachnids 14646
18 (7) Canadian Star Federation 12861
19 (24) The United Benzoians 12807
20 (11) GammaSquad 11080
21 (19) CDG Creations League 9658
22 (13) New Texas Republic 7406
23 (20) Arnor 6563
24 (10) Apolyton 5604
25 (16) GoneGolders 1634

I'll leave much of the anaylsis to others but Special Forces being top is not suprising as they are an "invite only" empire who can cherry pick the crack troops. Fat Bastard seems to be the big winner as a single overlord empire.

Apologies for any mistakes but this was done with pen, paper and a calculator.:) I shall post the average per battle shortly...

Hmm, looks like my efforts at neatly formatting the table didn't pay off in the submitted font! :( However, here are the scores (of the British jury :)) per battle:

1 (12) Realms Beyond 4118
2 (15) Republic of Aldar 3679
3 (8) Special Forces 3678
4 (6) The ANZACs 3358
5 (1) The Jedi Republic 3167
6 (9) Evil Empire 3129
7 (2) Fellowship of the Ring 3073
8 (18) PanGaea Cooperative 2561
9 (22) Fat Bastard 2441
10 (25) Illuminati 2409
11 (24) The United Benzoians 2329
12 (19) CDG Creations League 2325
13 (17) Terran Federation 2315
14 (3) European Alliance 2237
15 (4) Mid-Western Confederation 2209
16 (14) Babylonia 2205
17 (5) G.R.O.S.S. 1956
18 (21) Space Arachnids 1723
19 (7) Canadian Star Federation 1554
20 (11) GammaSquad 1525
21 (10) Apolyton 1072
22 (20) Arnor 982
23 (13) New Texas Republic 977
24 (23) Adventurers Inc. 965
25 (16) GoneGolders 573

Note that this is the average Metaverse score per battle not the actual average of each battle score. Also, I've only calculated this for the "official" Top 25 Empires but if extended (eg someone implementing an automatic calculation) some lower ranking empires might creep in too.
Again, apologies for any errors that have crept in. :)

If you can find a way to strip out all the pre-1.10 games it might be more accurate. A lot of old empires are weighed down with pitiful scores that are worth up to a hundred times less than the older versions.

Hmm. I think that would require someone with access to the database of scores so they could do the calculation directly from the raw data. Downloading all those profiles and scores to do it by hand would be a nightmare! :(

i can give you the top ten for the first 100 empires if you want it.

but to stripe the pre 1.10 playes out of the empires would be a nightmare to even attempt

Someone already has the means, but have not programmed the rules yet. If the MWC stat crunchers can gather every game the top 25 empires ever submitted with an automated script, then a parallel program with a slightly different set of rules could only add up the 1.10 and later games. So beg of them and it may happen.

Average per battle will never be an accurate measure since it is directly correlated with the size map played. If having a high average per game were the actual goal of an empire rather than total points. you'd see wholescale changes in playing style.

That might well be true, but potentially as a statistic showing the mean playing style of an empire I thought it would be interesting. However, I think the way the scores combine with the square root factor and blocking makes it less reliable.

The average per overlord probably tells you more about an empire. Some may have just a few high contributing overlords while others may achieve their "official" score by having many recruits each contributing a little. I wasn't suggesting replacing the Metaverse ranking with these numbers but thought they might be an interesting measure of the character of an empire.

Well, I hoped that if I posted the rankings and got positive feedback, someone at SD might think it interesting enough to implement as a web-site feature. As you say, the hard work is already done in stat crunching, just needs a slight tweak to the calculation. I'm not holding my breath though :)

Just noticed that you can sort individual's scores by average on the web. Has that always been there? :notsure:
