Changing AI alignments

I haven't yet bothered to change the AI alignments at the game setup.

Will changing the alignments, for example, of the drengin to pure good and the altarians to pure evil result in different AI behaviours than leaving the alignments alone?

Very much so...

Remember that, all other things being equal, good AIs respect good alignments, and evil AIs respect military power. An alignment shift will DEFINITELY affect their behavior. It will also give you some refreshingly different communications text!

AIs respect good alignments, and evil AIs respect military power
End of quote

Yes, but all I have effectivily done is change the name of the empire with the good / evil alignment...

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding something :notsure:

Or do you mean that the Drengin is still an evil AI, even if you have assigned it a good alignment?

AIUI it'll affect the relationships more than the playing style - Drengins still go for military buildup for example.

However, your relationship with an AI will deteriorate MUCH quicker if you are of opposite alignmnent. The best scoring advantage is as a "Saintly" civilization against all "Pure Evil" AIs.

Oh, it is fun doing theme games. I have done the all evil alien thing a couple of times and it was fun. Once I finished it by ruthless conquest, the other time by a totally bloodless, saintly game of culture flips. No ships destroyed, no invasions, no bribes paid.

The most fun for me is to set all aliens to a random alignment...
You never know what you're gonna get...:)

I always do that :) . I've been wanting to try setting intelligence to random because I can handle an incredible AI now, but Maso games just keep drawing me too them.
