my 2 cents to galciv.... please fix these oversights

I'm loving the game - but I do have a couple of missed expectations with the game.

My first one is the trade routes - why is the number of trade routes the same for a small galaxy with 1 opponent and the same for a gigantic galaxy with 5 opponents. This doesn't make sense. I can understand limitations - civilizations want to restrict influence of foreign commerce - but there is no logic in the above. A better way would be to say there is a limit of 2 trade routes per galaxy size and per number of opponents. This would add a bit more of realism to the game. .Think about it - you have over 200 planets in your empire but can only have 3 trade routes?

My second beef is planet quality - what you start with and what the computer starts with - generally - the computer starts with better planet quality and more quality planets nearby. Why is this? I've played over 100 games and I always go back and review the computers home system and it is hands down always better than mine starting off. The computer already gets one advantage by knowing where all the good planets are - why give it more? Little advantages like this should at the minimum be documented for the player.

Third, minor races should not be able to develop trade goods. Minors races already start off with better planet quality and alot of cash - this allows them to judge up the tech tree alot easier. And some of the early trade goods almost always fall to them. This should be changed to where they can advance on the tech tree - just not develop the trade goods.

I'm hoping these changes can make galciv into a better game.

Trade routes would be far too powerful if you had more than what's currently available. The rationale about limiting trade routes is already borderline, so calling for more logic there seems pointless. As a game mechanism, it works fine.

About PQ, I don't know. On maso they get a +PQ bonus so this explains it, but on lower levels I never checked.

About Trade goods, I disagree because I think it is a good thing that minors build trade goods. You can buy them. You should be happy when they build a trade good, it means you can buy it without building it, and another major won't hold it off your hands. I never saw a minor build a wonder, on the other side. Now that would be annoying (though I'd still better have a wonder in hte hands of Carinoids than in the Drengins').

The AI gets to move its captial, unlike the human player, so you may be seeing that instead.

Read other threads for fast expansion tricks at the start of the game. On Gigantic, consider speding 80%-100% military on colony ships at the start of the game. Also consider getting +1 speed.

The minors in my games build all sorts of wonders when I give them the chance.

The game as a whole is excellent. A few minor annonances (Like the CTD problem) but hey I can deal with that. I think that all the problems you've presented have been talked about before (I know for a fact that the # of trade routes has been discussed, I was apart of that heated debate)

There's a whole other level to the game that makes it that much more interesting. Believe me. I see both you, Star Ranger, and fsk+ have an overall morality of evil (shows you're interesting in the metaverse) why not take it one step forward and join an empire. It adds so much...as anyone.

Now this is going to sound cheesy after telling you to take a step and join and empire but here goes:

The EVIL EMPIRE is an 'evil-only' empire, none of the rift-raft can join. And so far you both you, Star Ranger, and fsk+ qualify under both requirements. We are always looking to expand, and most of our members are in the senate so right away you can become an active member in our empire.

It would be a pleasure to have both of you join us.
