Combat Transports do nothing

Im new but Im watching how the AI does things, so I figured out you need to defeat the planet ships in order to invade with troops. So I did that and directed my transport on the planet but nothing happens, they just sit there next to the planet. Im at war and everything, I cant figure it out.

Step 1) Make sure there aren't any ships left on the planet. You can tell this when the little shield in the lower right of the sun disappears.

Step 2) Make sure the transport is selected. You will want to make sure that ALL of your transports are grouped together in a fleet, or else they will land 1 at a time.

Step 3) Make sure that all of the ship's in your fleet have movement left. This I suspect is where your problem occured. If you have a war ship grouped with your transports, and you use that warship to attack the planet, and in so doing the warship uses up all of its movement, than the entire fleet's movement is done. If the transports have more than 1 movement left you can select each individually, move them to an adjacent empty space one at a time, then regroup them and attack. Or wait until the next turn.
