Kylearan's Challenge - AAR Brought to You by Realms Beyond

Kylearan, a Realms Beyond regular, is trying to make the jump from Crippling to Masochistic. He has had problems doing so, having some success but not quite there yet. So he posted a report of a game he played and lost, even on replay and with spoilers, and issued a request for others to give the same map a try and share results. I've done so.

I can't download the Beginning.zip file from that site. Maybe ISP problem as I end up in a german web page which looks like it's not related.

Could be bandwidth limitations or similar issue. Kylearan is from Germany, by the way. He uses local webspace providers. Has to have somewhere to upload all the pictures and bits associated with his regular RBCiv Epics reports. :)

Sorry you can't grab the file. Perhaps that will clear up or be fixed. My report is hosted on my site, which won't crash or lose access with "too many hits", so that report will always be available.

You could have a galciv.org site of your own - see the "Empire Websites" thread....

Thanks, Alex. I'm fine with warpcore, though. Can't beat it with a stick. Warpcore held up through 30k hits a day on my Diablo II page when the traffic peaked in early 2001. My game pages have been hosted there for over six years now. The Realms Beyond site is also a grizzled veteran with secure hosting.

Now perhaps some of our individual players (like Kylearan) could use improved hosting. Ky has just about run out of room on his various free webhosts over in Germany. (He has played more games in our Civ3 tourney than anybody, and that's a lot of AAR's).

Sirian,

In your "Tips & Strategy" page, you mention that a fully-mined resource is worth a 48% bonus. Actually, it'll be 68% when it's got every last mining option built.

I like your summary of the different classes of Alliance victory.

The "Tips & Strategy" page is pretty good, I also like the alliance victory summary area.

Hopefully some new players find their way into your site, be a nice starter for them (quick start guide).

Can't remember but there were some things that could be added, one springs to mind is to mention frigates in the ship combat area, they are really effective. I use them against/upto dreadnaughts level in packs, or for cleaning up ships that are very damaged. I usually noticed I can produce something like one per 2 turns on my production worlds as opposed to a dreadnought (if im lucky to have the tech) in something around approx 12+ turns. I prefer the flexibility of numbers.

Perhaps mention the skill/levels and the way the AI retreats skilled damaged ships to repair as well, nice targets to remove future threats if the chance arises.

Sorry if those things are already in there, I must have missed them if they were.
