Why is this Stardock process always running in the background, even when no Stardock software is running? I don't want extra processes I don't need running in the background. Do I need to remove Stardock Central to get rid of this process permanently?

Thanks for your quick response. Given the fact the Stardock has released updates that have crashed peoples computers and wiped out gamefiles requiring people to reinstall the game, I would prefer to not have any permanent Stardock processes running in the background. It's not worth the risk.

The Stardock Master Control Program. It's installed as part of the Stardock Central client program.

It's eventual (advertized) purpose is to bind most of the interfaces used across multiple Stardock programs into a single executable so that there aren't five ar six copies of the same code running for people that use a number of SDS programs. Right now, only DexktopX and ObjectBar use it, so it's safe to shut down if you need to memory if you don't use either program.

I can manually shut it down, but I can't permanently shut it down. It starts running every time I turn my computer on, even though I have not run any Stardock programs. I cannot find it in Services or in the Startup processes so I can't just disable it at start up. How is it launched? How can it be permenantly disabled? Thanks.

You can remove the process permanently by removing the entry called MCPClient in your registry.

The registry entry is located here :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\MCPClient

You can save the entry in a file before deleting it, if you want to restore it.

Basically this is a service that will call a stub dll when you logon your computer and will eventually call the sdmcp.exe.

But i would guess that next time you update your SDC version the registry entry will come back. You will have to erase it again.

Thanks for the info. This background app is conflicting with something in my startup programs that cause incomplete bootups halfo of the time. (Although if I log off and then on again, that fixes it about 99% of the time.) Weird, huh?

Hey! Its Windows (tm). Weird and incomprehensible are its middle names! :)

I use it 'cos its the only way to play any of the decent games out there! Mind you, I have forgiven Microsoft all its faults for inventing Powerpoint.

Hi,

can this information be found anywhere in the documentation? I could not find a search function in the help for the Stardock Central.

I ask for this for two reasons:
1. There are so many troian horses and whasoever in the wild that I don't tolerate anything unknown.
2. It's alread a pain to wait for the PC until it booted. Thus I try to avoid any autostart etc.

It's fine when I know about it. I just want to be informed. :SURPRISED:

or you can do what I did and thats turn it off in sdc :)

tools then settings then under the general tab then uncheck these 2 boxes

Enable MCP notification Area Support

Enable MCP SmartStartup

then click ok and reboot :)

no more sdmcp.exe loading
