question for someone who knows the game (best would be a programmer....)

hii
i am currently creating ships.
i made a minor race ship, and created a somewhat creative icon.
no afterwards it cam to my mind, that noone will ever see it!

so i thought about changing races.
the only solution to play as another race that i could think of would be to re-encode all the ship model files, with the 0ship models not beeing terran but the race u want to play. (and all following model moved by one step....)
now this is pretty complicated, and uses quiet some disk-space. (to put it as a mod to download).

so how much hardcoded is it, that the player uses the 0ship models??
if u could change that it would be pretty easy to change the playing race.
(i know galciv it ment to be played as humans, but for example for a star trek mod, i am currently helping to grow, it would be nice to play all the major races )

so can somebody tell if its is possible to change the model-pairs ??
and if so how?

would be really, really nice!!

perhaps an option for the 1.3 patch??!!

You could always run a program that move around the graphic names according to the race you've picked. I've made available more than enough of the galciv concerned file format to do that.

I haven't released my latest finding on image decoding mostly because someone at my host think it's funny to change the passwords 4 times a month without any warning and then getting it back takes frigging forever. ANYWAY, I'm rambling.

hum, that would be perhaps usefull for someone with at least a minimum of programming knowledge, which i lack.

by looking over the entrys on ur hp, i am not able to do such a thing as automating the renaming of this files, not to speak of beeing able to programm something that could....

to be more precise, i do not even have the smallest idea with which program i should open the spr1 files, even if u would know exactly where to search for hem....
im not even sure if its the correct file type....

Now that I implemented the mods folder, you can put your files that you are modding in it, and it will use those files rather than the standard ones if you enable mods either from the menu in game (need to restart Gal Civ for it to take full effect) or by setting EnableMods=1 in prefs.ini
