GalCiv: Altarian Prophecy Pre-Orders

Our goal by the end of the month is to have around 500 pre-orders for the expansion pack based on the polls.

Unfortunately, at the rate things are going, we won't even come close to that.

Those of you who responded positively on the poll we hope will consider pre-ordering the expansion so that we can get a better idea of how much actual interest there is in an expansion. If there isn't sufficient interest in the expansion pack we'll have to discontinue its development so that we can focus on The Political Machine (our other game project in development).

I have no credit card and cannot preorder it even if I wanted too!
Don't you have a bank account to where I can send the money without having to have a credit card?

To make it nessessary to have a credit card to be able to preorder will certainly limit's the amout of preorders! >:(

BTW, in the event of cancelation, the project would still come out with slightly less content for Drengin.net users.

Pre-orders aren't charged until it's released.

At least there's a way to pre-order by check through snail-mail. :) I'm probably going to have a pre-order sent in the very near future.

Will in this expansion pack be the base previous updates or just the new game's update?
Well, I have Drengin.net, so I will d/l it when it comes out - does that count as a preorder?

What about non-US orders, I've never bought software from US before, are there any extra problems with this?

Sorry for the noob question, drengin.net, what exactly is it? I've given it a look, but not sure what it is exactly, is it just a download client sort of thing?

Like many others here, I want it. I am also (again like many others) a drengin.net subscriber, but would buy it if it were not part of drengin.....

What do you want to tell me this way?
Looks like the Order form on the site with the differnece of an option pay by check...
I don't know how all these things work on the other side of the Atlantic but here in Euroland you pay things you order via a simple money transmission to the bank account of the company you buy something from. When will the Human Empire finally develop the technology "Standardized Moneytransmissions" LOL

What will be in for sure if you do cancel? I had bought GC during the beta, and I bought Drengin.net during the expansion beta. I will still contribute $10 for further support (others? If we want the continued support and added features face it you are going to have to pay) So spell it out for us, we know what we will get if it goes and here is what you get if it doesn't. I also think people are becoming weary of pre-ordering and will buy once it is reeleased (I think your poll will support this), also you have to consider that it is the holidays and people may not want to commit till x-mas shopping is done. I just hope you do not "rush" into a canceling decision.

Yakumo Fuji, remember that you can select the "download" preorder option. No muss, no fuss, no overseas mailing fees; just an Internet connection (that you obviously already have). I don't know if your local sales tax (if any) would apply to an overseas purchase - any commerce wizards out there have the answer to that one?

Hmm, I'm currently thinking of upgrading to drengin.net on the basis of the extra value the expansion will give me. But that wont show up as a pre-order :(
Reply #22 Top
Yep, I have Drengin.net too, so I'd get it as part of that.
i have pre-ordered it. but if there is not enough support for a full release then i will upgrade to drengin.net to get expansion.

Basically the scenario would be that the 2 extra civilizations would get zapped if we canceled it.

Adding two more civilizations is what raises the cost the most because now you're bringing in 2 additional developers (both of whom were on The Political Machine).

So one of three things would happen:

1) By end of November the level of interest in a stand-alone expansion pack will prove sufficient (in the form of pre-orders) and we'll continue forward as planned.

2) By end of November the level of interest in a stand-alone expansion pack will prove weaker than hoped and the expansion pack features will be altered to remove the two new alien races with the hope of adding them in an update later on but not commiting to it (i.e. if the expansion pack ends up selling really well we can always revisit that).

or

3) Interest in the stand alone expansion pack proves to be very weak in which case we'd just have the expansion pack be only for our Drengin.net users and the feature set would be the same as planned minus the two extra races. The Korx and Drath would show up in GalCiv II instead someday.

Brad, if there's a spike in drengin.net subscriptions, are you planning on counting that against the "magic 500" number?

With the other thread ("Why buy the premium expansion rather than getting drengin.net?") mentioning that the drengin.net price will increase by $5 on Monday, and the fact that a $30 drengin.net subscription provides a lot of value for the $10 increase over the expansion pack price, a full upgrade seems like a logical choice. But if it hurts the chances of seeing the full expansion pack in the first place, some might back off...

I picked up a drengin.net subscription some time ago. While I'm looking forward to The Political Machine, GalCiv is definitely Stardock's crown jewel, and it would be a shame not to see the Xpack in its full glory.
