I guess its okay to win this way...??

I was playing a game on a easy setting not super easy and with two evil races and 3 nice races. Two of the major races later on in the game surrendered to the others cause they only had one planet but the other got wiped out and conquered by the I-league minor race. I have no idea why they attacked them, I guess it has to do with the ai beefed up with the new patch but I won the game by being the only survivor. The minor race did all the work for me and I didn't even bribe them or anything. It seems kinda cheesy to have a minor race help you win the game I don't mind if it was a major race though plus I though the minor races were suppose to be weaker then the majors. Sorry I had to post this cause it on my mind and doesn't seem right to me.

hey dont moan. in my last game 4 out of the 5 other majors all got hit by the fundamentalist event at the same time, losing all their planets! LOL
just had to finish off one major (only one planet) and got military win!!

I'm not complaining I was wondering if anything similiar to this had happened to anyone and now that I found out from someone it set me straight. :)

I had three of the five civs surrender to me before I even knew of their existance and I went on to get a quick cultural victory.

I think it's happening more often, Madcat. I'm seeing more Fundi events at maso level and like you, I notice this can really disrupt the majors on a small map where losing even one planet can disrupt their resources. More aggressive minors contribute to this effect. I can't understand Bill's experience, though - THREE civs surrendering before you even make contact??

Ironically, I'm seeing no fundie events any more. Ever. Perhaps their random function has some corruption?

I haven't seen a fundie event (regardless of my alignment) in a number of games now, maybe as many as seven or eight. Certainly none under 1.12. I'm not complaining about THAT, mind you (good riddance) but that doesn't mean they've fixed it.

Could be similar to the issue with the two UP events.

Madcat: I agree with your bewilderment about some ways to win in this game. All I can advise you is to increase the difficulty level, because the balance really shifts towards the majors on higher levels. The minors used to be weaker, and the new stronger minors may not be well balanced at lower difficulty. (Most of the forum feedback comes from community vets playing the highest levels, so how would Stardock even know there's a problem unless folks like you point it out?)

Really? Man, that's wierd...I guess if it's "random" then I might just be having a run in my first 6-7 1.12 games, but still....

...are you seeing the phenomenon of the same UP vote topic coming back time after time? I seem to vote for the '2 year increased influence' topic again and again...

The point is valid. Minor races should count against military/alliance victories. This would also serve to solve Fundies' perceived inbalance issues.

I am thinking about that now. If alliances were really fixed so that humans had to honor them and a human could not enter an alliance with two warring parties on the same or subsequent turn without one or both rejecting the offer (because you are allying with a racial enemy, of course), that would lead to some pretty interesting results. Since majors like to pick on minors a lot, it would basically mean an alliance of all surviving majors or minors, since one or the other would have to be eliminated or all brought to the peace table first before the mass game-ending alliance. For the military win, it would mean culture flipping (another "feature" which should be fixed: turning off culture victory but flipping aliens anyway to win a military victory) or conquering everyone on the map, prolonging clean up time. This might actually make tech and culture victories worth pursuing for the high ranking players because of the new time scale that would be involved in the clean up toward alliance/military victory. (But only if tech victories especially get rid of the horrendous penalty on that victory condition.)

YES YES YES!!! And it's driving me crazy!!
:p
CariElf say it will be fixed this week!
As far as the Fundies: Even before 1.12 I'd seen them take over a slew of planets from other races in one swell foop. These are "Revolutions" against Evil Civs. Then it happened to me: 9 planets all at once. I was just very lucky I was mounting an attack against another Civ at the time, and managed to get most of them back the following turn through invasion!
I actually like the thought of a mass uprising against "all things evil", it spices up the game!

Fundies??? what are they? :notsure:
only ever seen them once and they didn't do anything, they just sat on the planet they took off the Yor and done what all other minors done - traded with me :D

but back to the topic, i am playing a maso (small) atm and i had the drengin surrender to me within the first 5 years, the torians surrendered to the yor a couple of years after, the acreans being massively aggressive attack the yor and the altarians, they take one of the yor systems wipe out their ships and then the yor surrender to me, meanwhile the acreans have got all of the altarians ships out of the way and get ready to take them over and hay presto the altarians also surrender to me. and thats about where things currently stand i have 71% towards military victory without even going to war. but its going to take a miracle for me to win though the acreans have massive cash flow coming out of no where with a military half the size of mine again and their economy is like exactly what mine is. i think they get cashflow bonuses after so many years into the game. babbling again...damn this game is addictive. :)

Drako81 play a game as an evil (and I mean EVIL) Civ and you'll get to know the Fundies VERY well :sniff!:

This discussion has been on before and i too think it's slightly unbalanced.

I would rather see it nerfed so that only a certain % of planets from each major would defect and then have it the event showing up more regularly.

It is an abbreviated form of the Fundamentalists, a group of good-aligned religious extremists who once in a while appear in a game, especially if the human player is evil. Systems belonging to evil empires can flip simultaneously (depends on morale and some randomness) to create a new Fundie empire. If an evil human is playing against standard alignments, this not only hurts the player, but basically annihilates the Drengin and Yor, and could gut the Arceans as well. Standard alignment Torians can get off pretty lightly (depending on how much time they have had to drift from mostly neutral toward good), and Altarians not only usually come out smelling like roses, but get a new best friend as well. (Interesting irony, though: if a good Altarian is of lower alignment and weaker than the Fundies, they might be on the hit list too!)

It has been quite a while since I witnessed them last, but they were fun to deal with way back when I was playing evil and commenting about them in the GROSS thread months ago. Ah, the "good" old days. I think I might need to get back to some old fashioned evilness one day just to remember how to play that side of the fence and maybe run into some Fundies again.

In all my games I've never encountered the fundies once, and I almost always play evil...
