Innocence

Yep...poem, have fun!

Ah, nostalgia,
Once so young and carefree,
Now grown up and wise to the world.
Happy and joyful so long ago,
Before we learned how the planet torments us.

Our innocence was so pure and sweet,
Not a dirty thought or bad word to say.
But we have changed as we matured,
All of the pain, violence, and problems found us,
And tore our false security away.

The days of listless play,
Nights of endless laughter.
Gone are the gentle images we once held,
Replaced by the vile panorama of life as it truly is.
How could we not see this cruel world as it stands?
Blinded by the ignorance and innocence of childhood were we.

A blessing it was,
To know no pain behind the faces of people,
To know not the horror which lurks in society.
But now our innocence has been ripped away,
Now we face the horror that is our every waking moment,
Forever seeking the solace that was stolen from us when we left childhood behind.
