Mouse issues

For some reason when I try and play I am having issues with my mouse. The available motion area for the mouse is reduced, and in order to click on anything I have to randomly move around until I find a spot that coorelates to the item I want to click on. Basically it seems the mouse is operating on a difference screen size and scale, one that does not coorelate to the visuals on screen. It makes the game unplayable.

I'm on Win2000, P4 with all the latest OS upgrades. And I have used StarDock to upgrade GalCiv to the latest version with all available enhancements.

Oddly I tried the game on a P4 XP machine and it worked fine.

Any sugegstions or known fixes?

Maybe you should try installing some mouse drivers. Like if you have a Logitech mouse you can dowload the MouseWare program. I know that his has fixed a problem for me in another game. I hope this helps you. :notsure:

lwallace: yeah, see if there are any updated mouse drivers, and maybe your video card and monitor.  It could be a resolution changing issue.  Are you playing windowed?

Standard mouse, standard win2000 mouse drivers. And I am not in windowed mode. I've tried updating drivers for the mouse but Windows says I have the latest...

I had exacly the some problem on my desktop (Standard win98 mouse, Rage graphics card). Never fixed it (i'm playing on my laptop).

I remember having the same problem when i started playing TCM and you guys (Stardock) came up with some kind of fix back then (something about writing "-\mouse" at then end of the startup shortcut - i don't know much about pc's)

Elar: what resolution are you running in? If you are running at a resolution other than 1024x768, have you tried running at that resolution to see if it makes a difference?

There is a command line argument in both TCM and Gal Civ, MOUSE, that is used to enable a software cursor.  Gal Civ doesn't need the - or \ for command line parameters.  You could try it, Elar, and see what happens.
