Gifting Galciv

Hi,

I am considering giving a copy of Galciv to a friend as a gift. This friend does not have a fast connection to the internet.

What I would like to do is to buy Galciv (in his name) using my own credit card and download the entire game to my hd (preferrably in a zip file), burn it on a CD-ROM and then being able to give him the CD and the serial number for him to use.

It's fairly urgent so shipping the CD to Sweden is not an option.

Is it possible? How would I do such a thing?

One could argue that I should know how to go about this since I have been playing Galciv since the beta, but using Stardock Central has been such a smooth experience for me, that I have never paid any attention to what I was doing.

Any help would be appreciated!

Best regards

Andreas

You can use Stardock central to archive the game once it's downloaded, then burn the stardock central install file and the archives to the CD.  Then your friend can copy the install file to his harddrive, install SDC, copy the archives over and then restore from the archives.

You should be able to do this from your SDC install without having to create another account for him, and then just help him set up his stardock account with the serial number that you get in the order confirmation e-mail.  I don't think that he'll have trouble registering Gal Civ if you don't register the serial number with your e-mail first, but if he does, e-mail me the e-mail address that you used to order Gal Civ, his e-mail address, and the serial number and I'll see that it gets changed in the database.

I have archived the latest version and burt it on a CD together with the stardock central install file, as suggested.

Thank you very much for your help! I registered the game to a new email address (thank god for free webmailers). I assume that it is possible to change the email address later on if he wants to.

Thanks again!

I have been a Stardock customer since Object Desktop for OS/2, so I guess that I am spoiled with excellent support.

But CariElf does indeed seem to rise above even the usual high Stardockian standard.

Thanks CariElf!

I hear so many reports of how wonderful Stardock's support are I am beginning to wonder if maybe they don't like me or something. (:(

Every query I ever emailed them has been totally ignored. :(

AntonChanning, what is the e-mail that you are sending your questions to?

The first one is redundant now, but quite a few months ago I had a problem with my main email address and posted to the forum asking how to change it. I was advised to use the 'contact@' button at the bottom left of the forum. The problem I had with that email address has since been fixed, so I no longer need to change it.

I never received a reply to that query however.

My second query was to sales, who have now got back to me. I was finding out about upgrading to Drengin.net, which I will probably do at some point soon...

At the time I posted above post on this thread, I had heard back on neither my sales query or my 'contact@' query, and was feeling a little ignored. I feel better now I've been contacted by sales, who kindly provided me the information I need.

We had some people out in sales, so things were probably a bit backed up.

I don't know who gets the mail sent to [email protected].  Not me. :)

If you have questions or problems, posting them here on the forums will probably get the quickest response because even if I or one of my co-workers doesn't reply immediately, other players can help.  If that doesn't work, you can always e-mail [email protected].  Or me, at [email protected] because I get a lot of gal civ support e-mail forwarded to me anyway. :)
