Something i have not been able to figure out...

How do I ally with other empires? I know I have to research that, and I have. But I can not figure out what I need to do after that to ally with one of the empires. If any one could tell me that would we great.

You both need Alliances, and you have to have Close relations. Trade routes help build relations. If you're Good, your relations with other Good empires tend to drift upward. You can also improve relations by giving them gifts. And keep your military rating up, because if you look like an easy target they'll start demanding tribute and lowering relations.
