we aren't willing to compromise the single player experience one iota for multiplayer.

Thanks for that.
How about slowing down the early colony ship rush?

Logistics for number of planets?

This one would be fun: You'd have to learn logistics before you invade too many worlds, or get production/morale penalties for every world beyond your optimum number of planets. You could tie this penalty to government: An imperial government is not productive, but has small penalty for overstretching. A Star Federation is very productive, but if overstretched, some planets feel like they'd better leave the federation. In a Republic the production might drop without too much morale hit...

Logistics is something I could write for hours about. It's the biggest failing of GalCiv. We've never been flamed for not taking this into consideration but we should have.

I'm unhappy with myself for not implementing logistics as a major aspect of the game. I mean really, how would humanity possibly know how to manage all these diffrent planets? Or supply all those starbases?

Logistics needs to be handled automatically but it is also something players will need to spend $$$ investing research into.

The best we can do is retrofit a small piece of it in to GalCiv 1.2, the altarian expansion pack, and GalCiv II.

WHAT! No logistics in Galciv? Stardock ***s and you are a *** ***! As a result of this, Galciv is a ***ing game.
That's it, you've been flamed now. Feeling better?

Do we even know how to manage one?

My idea stemmed from Call To Power 2. A game which would have been great had it featured an artificial intelligence, and which is once you play it modded. There were limits on the number of cities you could control. One of the advantages of a better government was a bigger number of allowed cities. Beyond a that number, each of your city got -1 happiness. It was interesting because, once modded, you could find it more interesting to be in an empire government with poor research/econ but big number of cities limits instead of a city-state government with good econ/research but small number of cities.

Rise Of Nation also has a nice logistics thingy: Units in enemy territory suffer attrition damage unless you send wagons with them... I often used low defenses, big attrition-improving things and aimed at wagons when defending myself when I played that game.

Wouldn't mind if ground combat was a little more complex, even if that just meant the implementation of 'troops'. None taxpayers who fight better then citizens... this might allow for other ideas, such as should the planetary garrision be wiped out and the citizens morale drops (as they suffer losses) below a limit they surrender to the invaders. Possibly allows alignment options on how to deal with the conquered populace. Then have a period of time where the populace loyality must be built up (garrison troops or capital ships over system). Just a thought...

I would like some sort of logistics included but not at the cost of gameplay especially if the AI can't handle it. I'd rather not have the ability then give the AI a massive bonus to keep up.

To build on earlier posts would be interesting is Imperial governments need a troop presence to maintain order on planets if they over extend themselves (transports in orbit or a building). While Federations don't suffer so much as they thrive on freedom but suffer else where like espionage (freedom of infomation, money making etc)...

forgive me post, I iz back again after a while and iz posting tired again ;).
