Expansion v3 - Will this work?

The idea is simple and potentials are unlimited: Multilayered, Multidimensional galaxies.
There is a research pretext for it: 1D phasing, 2D, 3D, etc… What that could mean that you could expand into a different dimension (where rules could be quite different based on your good/evil/research/past deeds). That would also allow creating infinitely large map, bound only by a computer speed.
Implementation of it cannot be very complex (just add a concept of portal in as well as concept of relocating resources from one galaxy to the other).
As an advancement of this very same idea:
Each galaxy can have dimensional portal i.e. 1D, 2D etc.... therefore if a portal from the main galaxy is created it could be a portal to dimension 1, 2, 3, 4 RELATIVE TO THAT GALAXY. Once in a galaxy in another dimension, the same rule set applies 1D, 2D etc, once again relative to the galaxy where portal is located.
The set of rules could differ based on dimensions. As an example: good/ evil for the main galaxy same rules as everyone has now. Bringing a concept of the “absolute evil” dimension – evil would get a significant economic/military benefit, and good would suffer. This would alter the balance and make people think twice before going to fight on someone else’s turf. For “absolute good” dimension, better attitudes get benefits and evil suffers. For “Miniaturized” dimension small ships, gain advantage and large one suffer the degradation.
Relating to balance of power: “good”/”evil”/”miniaturized” etc. would provide endless struggle of power; for someone who is God like in galaxy #1, will be highly inefficient in another, that will also mean that becoming good is not always good, and building just capital ships might backfire. Keeping your galaxy and concuiring the rest could become more complex that I can foresee, but then again, it might be fun.
Dimensional expansion is also an option. As evil overpowers the good, evil begins to benefit more and good slowly degrades. The remedy a problem good would need to attack evil to prevent them from becoming more powerful and so forth…..
The only problem that I can see from a mile away is - how do you implement a map for it
Thinking of the concept in terms of map size: The smallest map with double layer 3 dimensions would be about 3x the size of a huge galaxy as of right now.
