Do aliens use TerrorStars?

I'e only been playing for two months now,
but have yet to see aliens build or use terrorstars,
do they?and along that line will a minor race that's gifted a terrostar use it?

I've personally seen an AI that had partially built one, but that's it. I seem to remember that somebody tested the AI by putting a terror star right by its enemy's planet then gifting it to it, and even then it just stashed the TS away instead of using it.

I have seen the Arceans built more than one in one of my latest game, but they never finish them.

they build them -- I have seen a completed terror star with a resource attached being relocated, somewhat at random as far as I could see. I have *never* seen an AI destroy a planet with one, if that's what you mean.

I created and gave a Terror Star to the Dregs next to Sol, then declared war. Instead of nuking my only system (which was in range), the TS retreated back next to the Dreg home system and remained there. What?!?

I repeated the same with the Arcs and Yors with the same result. I even gave them the Terror Star tech just in case they need that to operate the big gun.

If the AIs do not know how to use Terror Stars, I would suggest removing this unit out of the game until they do.

Well, following my experiment with the Terror Stars, other tests show that the AIs retreat all gifted ships back to their systems immediately after they receive the gift so that experiment does not conclusively show that AI don't know how to use Terror Stars.

Having said that, no one has come out so far to say that they have seen an AI Terror Star blowing up a system.

hey ray,
wasn't that a fix implemented to fix a couple of exploits? gifting freightors for instant trade and gifting ships to attack resource starbases.

I'm not sure about that Maxti.

Back in June when I remember employing the tactic of gifting ships to the AI to take out starbases (my only Alliance win), the gifted ships always retreat first. After a few turns, they will zero in on nearby enemies.

Well if you notice the terror stars attack is always set to 0 if the AI have some check to see what the units attack capability is and if the AI decides its to low to distroy anything most of the time they will just let it sit and wait to use it as backup or something never tried to test the theory but it might just be the cause

I still think TSs should be able to attack ships.

Me: "Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battlestation!"
(TS blows up Arcean combat transport)
Arcean commander: "That blast came from the terror star! That thing's operational!"

You're watching to many Star Wars movies. TerrorStars are not DeathStars. DeathStars blows up planets, TerrorStars blows up stars.

For the record - I perferred the OS/2 Terror Star.
They cost 5,000 shields and had a 250bc maintance. The scarest part of the OS/2 game was hearing the TerrorStar noise and knowing that the AI just zapped one of your systems. The old TS could not attack ships but they moved as fast as a battleship and it took a few battleships to destroy them. I used to deploy sensor drones near my systems just to detect an approaching TS. The new TS are weak and I just dont use them.
I would like to see the TerrorStar mod removed from the SB and the TS ship returned to the game.

Nope, they aren't Death Stars. They are weaker and far less able to defend themselves than Death Stars. But don't tell me that the concept of a Terror Star didn't come from the Death Star.

I don't know if the Death Star had a party palace or a cultural exchange centre in it....

Solo said they were the 'size of a small moon' so they could have but I dont think the emperor cared.

Not true! The emperor was well known for his penchant for a good boogie on Friday nights and Tuesday Evening Karaoke!

You know the terror star is coming when you hear "Staying Alive" blasting from the speakers. LOL
I built my first last game and used it as a moving culture base. But I left it alone for a minute and the Altarians blew it up! The things are wimpy! It should take a few overlords at least to blow it up, or like 50 Frigates! Imagine a Nebulon-B Frigate versus the Death Star, or a Mon Cal-B versus the Death Star.

Yeah i know one overlord took out 2 terror stars i had made like 4 of em! err and they move super slow then i researched some tech and they started moving faster but i soon found out that it was because i grouped it with a very fast ship so it had a movement of 15/1 err that was weird but it seemed more realistic to me that way too if they made them move faster then it would be better and no one could really complain (they should be the fastest ship in the game but then they should still be the weakest except for the ability to blow up a star) about one overlord taking it out.

I remember suddenly noticing messages saying " system was CONQUERED." (Or something similar. Apparently, since the message was sent AFTER the deed was done, there was no star system name left to display!) Then you KNEW a terror star was on the prowl, eating up your star systems. And you WORRIED because even though you were kicking alien butt, you had to go and find this thing and destroy it before it ate all your systems up for dinner! It was a scary thing to watch them zip across the screen on its way to one of YOUR systems!
