Morale 1 planets

Often times when I take over a planet, it has been stripped and now has more population than it can support, usually going down to morale 1. Other than the effect on my average morale, do I need to worry about this if the I-League doesn't exist?

I tried creating colony ships with 20 billion or so people and gifting them to alien civs once, and saw the nearest planets plummet to morale 1 for _many_ years with no discernible impact.

So if there is no I-League, do I need to rush to get the morale on these planets back to a reasonable level?

hey xeno,
there is no relation between gifting a colony ship to an AI and the morale of another star. Often sending the entire population into space *and* rush building stadium or teleporters is the only way to keep the morale reasonable without lowering taxes to an absurd level. It has been well discussed that "spacing" colonists is an evil act, but there is no morale or morality penalty for doing so.

The thing about allowing the planet to flip to i-league is that might leave it vulnerable to attack. I always space and rush a stadium. (actually, I try and gauge the PQ and rush a stadium on a 15 or 16, teleporters if 14).

If I give them a colony ship with 20 billion people on it, and they move it into orbit around a planet that can only support about the 20 billion it already has, then it sure does have a morale impact!

Also remember that colony ships have an unlimited carrying capacity (which I consider to be a bug), so you can rush a colony ship to fix the problem. You can land the colony ship on an already-inhabited planet.

On the other hand, I find that rush-buying a +morale or +PQ building or two fixes the problem. By the time I'm taking over AI planets, I have a higher racial morale ability than the AI, so an entertainment network usually suffices. I try to keep 10k in the bank for such rush-buys.

I think the AI intentionally destroys buildings on planets that are about to be conquered or culture-flip. Or maybe the takeover process itself destroys the buildings.

Well, one of mine was suffering, and I was trying to figure out how much I should care if the I-League wasn't around. If they can't defect to them, do I need to rush buy just too much?

if your morale slips too low you could end up with the Fundamentalist event popping up. that would end up costing you your planet, maybe more than one! not nice :notsure:

Fundamentalists? :SURPRISED:

Yuck! The natural enemies of hedonists everywhere! ;)

Luckilly I have never allowed moral to stay that low and have never witnessed this horrible sounding event :HOT:

I think that 100% morale on every planet does not give 100% immunity to the Fundamentalist event. It does decrease the damage, though.

If you set every AI player to pure evil, you'll see the fundamentalists every few games.

Funamentalists don't seem to have any relation to morale, though they have a relation to your morals/ethics.

Regardless the circumstances, all I do whn the AI throws me a 1 morale planet is rush a colony ship and launch all but one of the people until I get the morale imps back up. Although a big colony ship like that is also good for use as a culture bomb too ;)

Well, I think the I-League can pop up at any time, even if all their planets have been taken. Once an I-League, always an I-League. Also, I second LDiCesare -- the occurance of Fundies is random. The effect may have to do with morale, as in you lose a random % of your planets, starting with the worst morale. Wouldn't know -- I always play pure good.

I read somewhere that having low-morale planets helps lead to the creation of the I-League, but I don't really believe it.

The only bad effect I can think of would be losing elections.

I've never seen the I-League reappear after I've defeated them. I was actually wondering what happened to systems that were 1-morale and the I-League is gone. I've never seen anything happen to them. Does this mean that if you quickly defeat the I-League, you no longer need to worry about systems defecting? :notsure:

LOL, I'd forgotten about that one.  The I-League used to come back from the dead. :)

End of quote

From experience, that seems to be the case. I usually don't bother about 1 morale systems in the end-game if I know the I-League's gone.

Perhaps the rare breakaway/civil war event should come into play in such instances. These planets should get a small chance of declaring independence.

Aaberg -- thanx! too many changes to 'member all at once
Now that I understand the nature of this thread after 18 posts, I will have to ponder Ray's last words as I prepare another 4 planet start on a gigantic maso moo-haa-haa . . . . . . .
