Hold down shift & press the Print Screen button (Prt Sc) open a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro or MS Paint etc. and paste (Ctrl + V) the screen shot into the graphics program and save as a bmp or jpg.

Hold down shift & press the Print Screen button

The shift key doesn't do anything in connection to the print screen key.....
Holding down the Alt key while using the Print Screen key will capture the "Active" window only.

Depending what's on your desktop, try this...Link

forgot.. the above applies if you have objectdock

this also works...Link
but it won't pick up some of the ObjectDesktop stuff... objectdock, cursorXP,...etc.
But it can be useful.
