Influence Strategies

Hey all, I'm new to the game, but i noticed something odd. In one alien controlled sector, I have 5 times the influence as the alien itself, no surprise because i was going for a cultural victory. Now this has been going on for several turns, but the star system as yet to secede.

Is this the result of the bug, or is there some technology that would allow them influence immunity? If the latter, are there any strategies that anyone cares to suggest for making the darn thing rebel?

Not immunity, but resistance. It takes more time or more SBs to flip systems with resistance, but it can be done.

When you get ready to join an empire (if you decide to) check out the Fellowship of the Ring Empire. ;)

You can always increase destabilization spending on that race. Planets with lower morale are more likely to flip. Of course, they can counter that with morale improvements, propaganda, and lower taxes. Or, since cultural effects of starbases multiply instead of add, you could build another one and double your influence in that sector. At some point a wide enough gap will be impossible to resist.

Build 2 more maximized culture starbases. That should work.

Some minors, such as the Carinoids and I-League, have very high cultural resistance ratings. You may need 5 maximized culture starbases in the same sector to flip them.

There is a "cultural resistance" ability. There are a few social projects that raise it, and notice that one of the starting racial ability picks raise cultural resistance.

Jasalcarl - if you're interested in the whole influence system, can I suggest you check out the "Wimming maso with no military" thread in the strat forum, and also do a search for the "Palace Magic" thread by Maxtipherous - both sources will fill you in on the key issues. Welcome to the game, and good luck! :)
