What happened to the precursers?

In the background of Galciv it mentions a race called the precursers. Apparantly they are the arnor(good?), dark arnor(neutral?) and draginol (definatly evil). Apparantly the Arceans and the other alien races know about the precursers and told humanity about them. But what happened to them? Are they all dead and their Yor servants have outlived them (unlikely since they were apparantly immortal. Or have they left this galaxy for another leaving their Yor servants to manage the galaxy in their absence which is why the Yor insist on ruling over all organic life. People keep finding precurser ships, weapons, artifacts and laboratories so they must have learned something about them?
Maybe they're just invisible and are watching the lesser races fight it out and that race will be elatated to become precursors.
Maybe one day they will return and one of many things things could happen.

They are welcomed back with open arms by the Yor who now rule the universe.
The precursers find the Yor extermininated and bring wrath down on those who killed them.
The precursers get involved in a titanic struggle with the post tech victory race who now rule the galaxy and either destroy them or be destroyed themselves.
The post tech victory race welcome them into the galaxy with open arms.
The precursers force all creatures to bow to their will and that of the Yor.

The precursors were old and powerful, but not too powerful to keep from dying (I'll give someone a oatmeal chocolate cookie if they can guess where I got that from).

I though that maybe they transcended reality. If you have ever had a tech victory, the humans themselves turn into precursors...

The dread lords were trapped inside the telenanth crystal when they lost their war against the arnor and can be released. What happened to they others I haven't a clue. Presumably they are waiting beyond the material universe or in another galaxy for a new race to join their ranks by winning a tech victory.
