My technique for which works beautifully for all levels up to and including Crippling (at least with tiny galaxy) is to:
(1) colonize fast
(2) research technologies not interesting for the opponents
(3) sell your unique technologies to the opponents for boatloads of cash (but buy no techs at all
since they are all overpriced!)
(4) crank up the spending to 100%
(5) build party palaces everywhere!

Then it doesn't matter if the opponents don't like you. They fold up their tent and go home! LOL

A couple questions on your game:

(1) Did you Ctrl-N until you had (a) a quality 20 Earth, (b) 1-2 quality 15 or better planets in the Sol system and (c) a nice nearby star cluster (assuming abundant and not rare)

(2) Did you colonize fast enough, even so far as to go into debt? (Did you colonize a minimum of 6-7 star systems?)

(3) Did you research only unique technologies the opponents aren't interested in and initiate a fresh cycle of trading with all opponents after EVERY technology was discovered?

I found the above to be an early key in my last game, and while "Ironmen" might be able to get by without #1 above, I can't see doing without it for a "first" masochistic level game!

Question, when I save the game, load, etc...it says I have an 100% alliance victory? But the game is still going, and I'm still at war with the Torians..why would it say I have a alliance victory?

Also, in my game, to fuel my technology trading, I used a technologist party, + luck + max tech + creativity + diplomacy. Only way I could get techs fast enough (even when researching into branches the computer opponents aren't interested in) for them to be worth something in trade.

I think next time you should Ctrl-N until you have at least the nearby star cluster in addition to the quality 20 Earth. Otherwise, one risks sitting on the quality 20 Earth, but with no colonies! :notsure:

In my way of thinking, a walkthrough is cheating, passing on different star maps until you find an interesting one is just being "selective" LOL

So what does crtl-n actually do?

After you start a game, at any point you can type cntl-N, even later in the game. Immediately, the game restarts from the beginning using the same setup you configured in at the start, but with a new random star-map. Everything you did before hitting cntl-N is gone and the game starts at the beginning. The way I use it is that I start up the game, choose the party and type of game I want, and then take a look at the star map without doing anything. If I don't like it, I hit cntl-N. Rinse and repeat.

You see? It's called "Selectiveness" LOL
