Alien politics

The alien civilizations of the galaxies have elections just like we do! Sometimes random news popups appear. The most interesting of these popups are the reports of alien political parties losing or gaining control ofthe senate. The alien leaders and the equivilant parties they belong to are listed below.

Netromancer of the altarian populists
Tlas Klaziana of the torian technologists
Lord Vega of the arcean universalists
N1 of the yor war party
Lord Kona of the drengin war party

I have no knowledge of the minor civilization political parties assuming they have them. Since MC citizens are usually very cheerful, I wouldn't get a popup about a ruling party losing control of the senate so a wouldn't know. I'm sure most experianced player know the above already but a new player might find the above useful. I would also apreciate any knowledge about the minor civ political parties if such things exist.

Huh? . . . I didn't know that . . . . Wooosh

I often wondered about the minor civilizations alignments . . .
Is there any way to know what they are?

Most of the minor civilizations that are named for actual alien races ie the alexians, carinoids, scottlingas, debians, caridians etc are of neutral alignment judging from the fact they seem to get on equally well with both good and evil and trade with both. The fundermentalists are pure good, more good it seems than the altarians. I don't know anything about any of the precurser type races though. I'd imagine the game makers hid minor race alignments to help protect the terrorist minors from the player. You can usually tell a minor alignment by studying the most kind/most cruel chart which appears from time to time.

Actually the major races' political parties change from game to game.

I don't know anything about the minor races' political parties.

I'm not sure about minor race alignments. I think the Alexians are evil because I've seen them get the Telenath event where it talks about how the evil Alexians are sacrificing thousands of lives to gain power (whereas if a good or neutral race gets it, it just says they've found an artifact granting them power). And I think I've seen the Carinoids research Hyper Warp which makes them good. Though of course it's possible that their alignment changes from game to game.

I think I've seen events where the alignment of a minor race changes. But, like yourself, I'm not sure if they always start out a certain way or not.

It would take me days to shift my way through the thousands of posts that make up the SP operational centre CyberPax.

The minor races do indeed have political parties as I have just recieved this message.

After loosing control of the senate for some time now, it's bieng reported that Sanderons populists have regained control of the senate. The political future looks bright for the Sanderons leader.

This proves that the Sanderons at least have a populist leader and it would be reasnable to assume that the others do aswell. Whether all minors are ruled by populist I do not know but I think the I leugue in my last game were ruled by a war party judging from the rediculous hitpoint on their ships.

I'm guessing that each minor chooses it's political party when it gets generated, just like the other aliens.

I think the in game minor political parties may be fixed just like their alignments. The example given, the Sanderon civ is good aligned and is aparantly very liberal (if it weren't good then their superpower nabours the altarian would already have squashed them) so it fits that they'd be ruled by populists. I think that the major civ parties aren't totally random and based partially on alignment.

I think I saw the Alexians as good a few games back, and I know I've seen them as evil a few times. I'm not sure how the AIs choose their parties, but a while back I made a political party mod that doubled PQ. The AI picked that a lot, but there were always a few in every game who used a standard party (not the same few). So how much advantage they get is definately important, but not the only factor.

So you're telling me that GalCiv is the first game to have a sentient AI. An AI that logicly chooses how to play each game and chooses parties that suit it. Hardely likely. I wish you could find out through espionage what parties are in charge and how alien senates currently stand.

I doubt it takes all its starting picks with strategy in mind before the game starts, but I think it does know that +100% PQ is better than +20% Economics. It probably has a random factor thrown in to keep it from picking the same thing every time.

Be good if you could see how alien senates are and what party is in charge in the diplomacy window.

I think that the AIs are at least semi-sentient. I made a party for fun, just like PJ, with massive bonuses. Everyone picked it, and everyone became equal with pq 40 planets.

It would be interesting to see if the aliens that picked War Party, for example, also picked other military bonuses. Sentient isn't really the word, but I could definitely see them being designed to pick from one of several play styles at the start and choose bonuses that favor that play style.
