Noooo this isn't happening! (Those events that just want to make you cry)

In my most recent game, I had established a merchant trading empire, with trade routes extending across the known galaxy, with 8 trade routes from Sol, and 5 routes heading to it. I was trading with everyone and I was making a 400bc profit. Then...to my horror. I recieve a event informing me that the colonists of Sol Five had the feeling that they should abandon the colony.

NOOOOOOOOOoooooo I screamed, I evacuated the 35 billion souls living in the system. The evil one came and was promptly beaten with the ugly stick of doom, and I retook the system. All thirteen trade routes no longer existed. My income droped to -700.

After about two years and much wheeling and dealing to keep my economy afloat, I managed to get the trade routes running again. Then just as I mananged to do so, my allies, the Altairans, declared war on both the Drengin, the Yor, and the Carinoids, esstentially the other side of the galaxy, and they had Shrikes, Rangers, and Dreadnoughts. My screams were unending, the war was long and hard with the Drengin and Yor on my doorstep and my allies in the south, with my empire in the middle. But after losing over fifty ships, most of my fleet. I won, just before the invasion fleet could reach Earth. Three lone capital ships around the Drengin homeworld.

about the ony event I really hate is the one where you empire gets split... there is no warning.. no devence against it.. it just happens .. All the work I've done to build up my planets are gone for nothing.. most times I can't come back from this event..as it desimates my influence that i'd built up..

If there is a way to avoid this i'd be interested in finding out.. I'm also intrested in how others cope with this event..

cry

call my mom

hide under the covers

disappear for six months

;) LOL

Seriously, if I lose too much of my empire, my only hope is a save file that's not too old. :(

The fundamentalist event only hits "evil" empires apparently - and if you are both good and keep your planets happy, it doesn't affect you, so there is a defence.....

Last game, I had just managed to defeat enough Drengin ships (thank you, Anti-matter missile developer!) to get them to make peace with me (with 4 trade goods as incentive) -- Good thing, since I was proud of my new dreadnoughts, and the Drengin were starting to field Avatars! I quickly freighter'd them up, establishing 8 trade routes. Started shipping Combat Transports across the map, through Drengin space, to take out the dying Torians....

Diplomatic f***-up event, the Drengin declare war. >:(
