Crash to the Desktop

I've just starting trying to play GC and I have installed the latest updates.

Following the manual's tips I start purchasing colony ships on each turn. I then go to the Fleet List and click on the arrow button to the right of the ship read-out list to deploy. However, after the 4 or 5 colony ship is listed and I click on the arrow key the game crashes to the desktop.

Is this a known issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes it does CTD , it used to do it to me too , then i stopped clicking on it and it never happened again :D so im not to sure if they have fixed it but peeps have mentioned it before.
The best way to 'push out' at the start is,IMO, from your very first turn, make sure you have at least one other yellow star in the system you start in. colonise the highest PQ planet you can see 15 is the minimum, dont bother with 14's there not worth it at the start. then press f4 to go to the economics , push the tax to 50% and spending to 100%, military to 100%, social to 0% and research 25% (on communication theory). then go to the governor tab and click soil improvement and then entertainment network into Mr Fords build list, he has three tabs on his screen, click the middle one which reads 'military swap' the top is what planets / colonies are building the bottom is what you want them too, so click nothing in the top box, (your two colonies are have no ships being built) and colony ship in the bottom box. now click done, and press f2, you will see your two colonies have soil improvement and colony ships ready to go :) now look at the map , press f9 for tactical, see which is the nearest sector to you which has the most planets in and send your survey ship there, thats it for the first turn, it shouldnt take more 2-4 turns (depending on ability picks) to churn out a couple of colony ships, remember though to balance colony ships with your population, if you build to many taxes and manufaturing drop as you have all your peeps in colony ships LOL

Hope this helps :)

The crash that I really hate is when GalCiv crashes the driver for my graphics adapter, locking me into VGA mode, and then there is nothing to be done about it except reboot. You haven't seen ugly until you see Windows XP running in VGA mode... :notsure:

Hmm, I thought I'd fixed that crash.

Can either of you give me detailed instructions on how to reproduce the crash?

CariElf,

With each subsequent turn I purchase another Colony ship, bring up Fleet List and click the arrow to deploy the previously built Colony ship. Then at turn 5 I click on the arrow to the right of the last ship built to deploy and the game crashes to the desktop guaranteed. I have never been able to play past clicking on the arrow after X number of ships have been built.

The first time I played the game I was expecting the ships to be on the Map when ready and so there were 5 ships queued up before I began deploying them. Regardless of whether I deploy them after each turn or all at once, once I hit the 5th ship the game crashes.

On a few games I have been able to get my first Colony ship to colonize another planet prior to turn 5. I am then purchasing 2 Colony ships per turn that only ends the game faster...

I would welcome any suggestions, thanks.
