new AP beta build

We've got the beta mostly put together, but we are probably going to have to wait until tomorrow to make it publicly available.

I hope it saving games works correctly on WinXP64 (AMD64) currently in Beta.

I'm unable to load saved games on this OS. The game exits to the desktop. I tried copying a saved game across to WinXP32 and it did the same thing.

I also seem to have a bunch of missing graphics, scout and avatar I know don't show up at all.

Cheers,
Dominic

How is this set up with other games? Any preformance increases?

It works very well on most stuff. Railroad tycoon 3 works a charm as does Railroad Pioneer Demo.

As the games are all 32bit there isn't too much difference right now. Now if they were recompiled for 64bit I'm sure you would see a major difference.

Dominic, just the current version of AP or 1.13 as well?

If it's both, do you have write priveledges in the save game folder?

I was thinking about getting an AMD64 but I'll wait a little longer till things start to support it. Thanks for answering my questions.

By the way... you looking to join an Empire? :)

Cari,

WinXP64 places all 32bit apps in

c:\program files (x86)

There is no choice in the matter. c:\program files\ is reserved for 64bit apps only.

1.13 Appears to work just fine loading and saving games

1.49[b].010 Will supposedly save games, I get the ~4Mb files in the Savegame directory. When I try and load a game however, the progress bar climbs to 100% and then i'm back at the desktop. I tried using WinXP32 and it also exited to desktop with the same save game file from WinXP64.

Cheers,
Dominic

It's not your OS, no one (I think) can load games in 1.49. It's one of the fixes that will be in the update.

the save game bug that is in 1.49 that is out, the 2nd beta has the fix for that, right now no one that has the 1st beta can reload saved games

when the 2nd beta comes out hopefully this afternoon then you'll be able to (and alot more)

I would highly suggest that you either finish your current games or dump them cause the save format is not even close to the way it was

I finished a couple of games and posted scores but my latest game, gigantic map, finished with cultural conquest, it didn't give me the option to upload. Guess its totally lost now.

It is the next day: January 23rd and you did NOT release the beta. At least somebody should post an update as to why the delay.

Dominic, were you playing a scenario?

If the AI was too broke to build anything for awhile, you might be able to load the end game save, because the AI wouldn't have any events to save.

os2wiz: January 23rd is not over yet.  The beta is ready to go.  I'm just waiting for Brad to be ready to move the files from the private server to the public one.

For someone who has been with us for so long, I'm surprised at the lack of trust.

You now really disappoint me. I was so looking forward to giving you a spanking for not delivering the goods.

Could we please not berate the developers for staying late and trying to deliver a beta on a Friday?

As addicting as it is, it's a video game, not a cure for cancer. We're trying our best to meet any dates that are actually posted, but except for the Elf, we're only human.

Thanks indeed Cari. I woke up this morning (time zone delays prevented me from having it "yesterday"), and there it was!
Out to try it now :)
