The Cost of Gasoline

Our 1992 520i’s Gas Tank Capacity:
80 liters, which is about 22 US Gallons.

March 4 2005 USA Average Gas Price:
$1.93 (is that right?! If so, holy crap!)

The gas prices for US Government ID card holders in Europe is calculated by taking the average of the US gasoline prices, but out of curiosity, I just did the figuring, and it appears that we're currently paying less than the average US price for gasoline, which is fine with me. We pay about 35 US Dollars to fill our tank.

See, according to the current US average, we should be paying $42.46. to fill our gas tank. Holy Crap.

That makes me mindful of the owners of fuel-inefficient SUV's, owners who are likely cutting back on driving their really fun toys to save money on gas. What's the fun of having a really awesome SUV without being able to indulge in some great road trips? Those vehicles were looking really good to me some years ago, but thankfully I lost the urge to buy one, and didn't succumb to the lure.

You might see slight drops in the price of gasoline in the months and years to come, but there's going to be a steady upward trend.

It's supposed to top $2.50 within the next few months.
