CTD *sigh*

Heya,

Purchased game about 2 months ago, played several games (poorly) without any problems between then and now. Found the website, and got SDcentral running, downloaded the latest updates and expansion.

Now when I startup, I get through all the specifying of options for a new game, it pops into game, gives me the initial 'Its been 8 years since...' dialog, I click OK, and it crashes to desktop.

Not much analysis I can do there.

XP Pro, latest sound/video drivers/directx updates. XP is up to date with all critical and recommendeds.

Thoughts? Anything else I can do to help troubleshoot?

I need to get back to sucking at this game!!!! Help!!

What language version do you got? If it isn't the english one you might want to uninstall it and download the english version. I believe the patches are designed (or tested) for the englis version.

Other than that I can only hope it is a temporary problem as it is a very good game!

There is also a thread in the forum for french and germain versions where some players rported problems, maybe it might help you..

Have you tried unsistalling and using stardock to reinstall everything? (it would be then the english version).

No, I haven't tried uninstalling everything. That also doesn't really figure out what the problem is. Although it may fix the issue, I (and Stardock/devs) won't ever know what the real problem is, and what, if anything, could be done to prevent it in the future.

But if I don't hear any better ideas in the next day or so, I'll go ahead and do that. Yes, this is the English version.

I agree that it is a bit extreme, like cutting off the head to treat a headache. But sometimes what else can be done ;)

I too have the english version installed, and no problems so far. Maybe you can install a program called "smartexception" I think. It will create a report about the error that you can send to carielf, a stardock programmer, eventually. Maybe that will help in a more constructive way :)
Sometimes you can get a corrupt file and nothing works anymore. I had a similar problem with a ship which would not build. I sent it to cari, and it builded fine on her computer, so I guess the problem was with one of my files (which I never touched!)
You can find her email and a link to the program in the bug reports threads, or maybe in the download section too. Good luck.

i found my game would generally crashed on the autosaves so I backed it off to once every 15 turns.

i also found that having only 16mil colours on the desktop reduced the amount of crashes.
