2 Questions if I may

Icons & Backgrounds

Hi folks, Can someone point me in the right direction for:
1, How do I change the windows explorer backgrounds, not the toolbars just the white backgrounds to bitmaps
2, I see some screenshots with Hard Drive Icons on the dektop with drive data next to it, for example drive sizes etc

Many Thanks
Petzl

petzllampo, I'm not sure about the Explorer backgrounds, but the icons with the data is done with a very cool program called AveDesk, check it out here Link

I'm sure you'll like it

petzllampo,

#1 = If you are using Windows XP you will need to use a 3rd party customization program like WindowBlinds (see link below) to apply a skin, and SkinStudio to design a skin. If you are running Windows Classic you can go to "Display Properties>Appearance tab>Advanced options button" and select "Window" from the drop-down list. This will only allow you to change the color, not apply a .bmp image.

Note - I have not used classic style in a long time, so I am not sure if there are restrictions to the various explorer window shells.

#2 - sounds like a DesktopX screenshot to me. If so, you are seeing objects created and perhaps grouped together with the DesktopX program.

WindowBlinds site:Link, there is a link on the site page to SkinStudio.

DesktopX site: Link, the new version 3 will be out on March 15th, so I would suggest waiting until then to try this one.

There are shareware downloads available for WindowBlinds and other programs, so users can try before buying. They have some limitations, but will give you an idea of what the program can do.

If you decide you like a number of the programs, I would suggest looking into Object Desktop which is a suite of programs including: WindowBlinds, IconPackager, DesktopX, SkinStudio and others. The price break is substantial and the value is excellent.

I bought it about a year ago and have never regretted it. Link

I remember there being a couple different programs available that could skin the background of the toolbar in IE. Simply doing a search in Google or your favorite search engine should get plenty of links. One was called Hotbar.
It puzzles me why some don't simply try a search first, you'd be surprised how accurate the results often are, at least in reference to question 1.

Hi Boss, I've posted a topic here Link asking how to setup the icons on the desktop to show the drive information and was wondering if maybe you could give a step-by-step how-to on how to achieve it? As I mentioned in my thread, I've downloaded and installed AveDesk but am stumped as far as how to use it goes. I haven't had much experience with those kinds of customizations (running a weather widget is about the extent) and I'm sure others might benefit as well. Thanks. ^_^

Bebi Bulma: I posted an answer over there in that thread. Let me know if that is sufficient.
