Bug Reports for Altarian Prophecy Beta 3

Bug Reports for Altarian Prophecy Beta 3

Please install and run SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central so that if the beta crashes, it will generate a report that you can send to me with your debug.err files and save games.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.

Please report typos in the typo thread.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

Here are copies of my current bug report spreadsheets so that you can search them for your bugs.  The one for normal Gal Civ probably has some bug reports that are redundant or have been fixed, but I cleaned it up as well as I could.  When in doubt, report the bug.  Also, all the version numbers for the reports may not be accurate, as I only added that field in recently and had to have a default value. So if I wasn't sure that I fixed it, I gave it the version 1.13 and left it there.  Let me know what you think about this system.

Shalom: send me the save game.

kjames81: keep hitting the arrow on the galaxy size setting until you get custom.  Then the custom map control will be enabled.  Click on the button next to the text field and the list of custom maps will come up.

The Current Victory Status in the Options menu should list whether Alien Tech Victory is on or off. I just realized in my most recent game that if it was on, I was probably going to lose.

The Treaties window is not necessarily accurate -- I think something like this has been mentioned, if not I can keep an eye out for it happening again and save it. The Treaties window told me the Torians and Arceans were at war, but their ships didn't seem to be fighting, and I was able to ask the Torians to attack the Arceans. Too bad I couldn't afford it, that might've helped :)

Is there any way to check the filename of the event that just happened? I've had a couple which did not appear to do anything, so I probably should exterminate them. :HOT:

Carielf I sent you the game with the CTD everytime I try to build The Terraformer and also some of the Terror Stars move and others don't, I noticed that they stop moving when I built more of the military modules, seems like one of the modules is cancelling the moving ability of the Terror Star.

Thanks for the info on the maps - though now I've got a problem with custom maps crashing the game. With my most recent try, the game crashes when I try to load a save game - I tried starting over several times, with the same result.

When I use the included maps, the game works OK (i.e. saves and loads work). There are problems (on gigantic balanced map)such as aliens sending colony ships to stars that have habitable planets, but not colonizing them. There will be stars with a shield on them, with colony ships in orbit, but no colonies. I can colonize these worlds with no problem, however the alien ships often remain orbiting.

Additionally, when I give a star to an alien race, the wrong star is often given. Trade routes are not established correctly - I send a freighter from planet A to planet B, but the trade route ends up being from planet C (which I may or may not own) to planet B. I also receive trade routes from races I haven't met yet. All of this is agin on the gigantic balanced map.

To add to this, homeworlds usually point to another race's homeworld, the second planet in your list to the second planet in the same race's list, and so on. Some planets don't point to anything as a result.

My suspicion would be that a pointer somewhere doesn't recognize the two new major races, or something of the like.

Rabid Rob, yes, I'd appreciate a save game that can reproduce that bug.

kjames81: I found some bugs in the custom map code. Stars created by by a custom map weren't using the same ID system as the stars created by a random map, so the save game code wasn't loading them correctly.  It wasn't something that I realized until I loaded my save game and found a bunch of Torian ships in orbit of Sol, even though I still owned it.  That could well be the cause of your troubles.

Ahh, just finished playing my first custom map... quite amusing how having our fleets around each others planets tends to cause wars. LOL
A custom map has lots of wierd things wrong with it, so folks submitting bugs using a custom map should warn about that. Also, I think games with custom maps, like Scenarios, should require some kind of approval to be allowed for a Metaverse submission.

Along the way, I made these notes:

Map Editor:
The Randomize Star/planet/resources seem to be influenced by the most recent choice made in game. Would be nice to make that accessible in the editor. Also, controls on resource availability might be good.

When the Editor is revealed after having been behind another window, but does not get focus, the map area does not repaint.

Hey, no scout ship, how did I miss that? ;)

No way to edit colony/transport ship population.

No way to edit planet pop/improvements.

No way to mess with star/planet names.

Purple stars don't seem to automatically get something cool assigned to them.

Randomize planets did not give each yellow star an M class... oops, I mean class 15+ planet ;)

Setting a star as capitol, or assigning ownership does not start a warning about no colonies being there. Capitols should always have an inhabited planet. If you start a game with an empty "capitol" system, you are currently assigned a random system instead. If the capitol system has a proper planet in it, congrats! You'll start at that system! However, it does not get marked with a little crown as a capitol, instead, the first colony I founded got that.

Wierd silly thing you can do with the GCLoader: Select GCLoader, then click on an empty spot of desktop, and then move the mouse back over GCLoader. Maybe it's just me or Win2k, but GCLoader suddenly pops over the taskbar, instead of behind it!

You are reporting this here because?

Hmmm, because I have AP beta 3, and it only happens with AP, and it's reproducable. Who are you?!
OK, it's not AP so I apologize. It only happned in Gal Civ, but after loading up another 2-D game (STrategci COmmand) I replicated it. It must be my current ATI drivers.

Your monitor making noise after being on for a while would tend to point to a hardware problem and not a software or driver issue. That is why I asked.

Depends on the monitor really. That could be an indication of video settings that the monitor doesn't really support, as well. I know of a number of monitors that will try to use resolutions that they aren't supposed to be capable of (which can, by itself, ruin a monitor).

I'd been using the refresh rate force, to overcome the Win XP refresh rate problem, and I thin that when running some 2d games, it was causing a refresh rate conflict. I updated my CAT drivers and haven't re-used the refresh force yet, to test if this is true. I have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u 22" monitor that supports almost every resolution and frequency on Earth, so that's why I'm thinking its the refresh locking.

HercMighty, a less inflammatory response to Jeff's question would be, "Have you updated your drivers recently?" or something along those lines.  Apart from that jerk in the other bug thread awhile back who flamed us rather than actually asking for support, I try not to jump down people's throats.

Cari, when will the campaigns be uploaded for testing? And also, can you look at this thread: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=133681#133681
and tell me if this is an AI issue in AP.

Thanks a lot, I Love this game!

Not until next week. We're putting up 1.2 this week.

Cari, I've run into a problem. I'm attacking with a mammoth invasion force of like 30 ships (inluding full combat transports). I attacked one of the minor's home planet, and my whole fleet has ended up on top of the planet - even though there's a full complement of enemy ships still defending the planet (like 15 ships).

So both opposing fleets and occupying the same space on the planet.
That happens in 1.13 too. Happened last night to me in 1.49.

It's probably been in there as long as fleets have been in there. :p Darn buggy fleet code.

No, I don't think it was a fleet of buggys...

LOL LOL Sorry, couldn't resist.

So how do you get out of this situation?
Just move off the planet and try again. It always works for me.
